Turbulence ShoreGame 11'

I already knew the Turbulence Shoregame would be very happy throwing the lighter stuff; however I did go and throw again, just 'cause i can.

Tried a 35g combo made up of a 15g jig head and 5" Jerk Shad. Nice.

Then a 45g total weight combination made up of 5" McArthy paddle tail and 1oz jig head was pretty easy to throw to around 80-85m or so. Conditions were pretty calm with a gentle left to right breeze. For distance into the wind, would much rather use 1.5 or 2oz jig head with the same soft plastic.

Clipped the line and swapped out to a 45g buck-tail and gave it a flick.

The difference was remarkable.
Whereas the softplastic/jighead combination was pinging nicely against the clip, the buck tail was quite literally pulling the rod about 10cm forward.
(I left the rod balancing on a finger-tip).
Tells me something - use bucktails. The EC boys and US anglers cant all be wrong?

Good rod design makes a difference, but lure design is critical.

Re the 3oz Clone; I do know the Clone is a great fish catcher, but man it tumbles..... Probably down to its perfect centre-weighting such that it sinks flat, neither head nor tail down. Going to be looking into proper "sticks with hooks" aka Needle fish lures.

That's a pretty rod, Arno and Tackleholic!

I just want to confirm something that was not specifically mentioned. I usually cast 60 to 80g spoons for cob. Would this rod handle these weights into head winds when you have to max power cast? And what PE line would be recommended?

Thank you! If I remember from the last time I weighed my lures, the 3oz Couta casting spoon is almost 100g.

Correct the rod handles from 45gr to 100gr and Brandon has cast 30gr and even a 24gr Casting plug a long way with it.

Went to test the rod at Sundays river surf today.

Got at the parking area and it is packed. Liga hengel. Beach packed packed and difficult to find a spinning spot.

Got a good couple of throws in with a 1,5oz bucktail. This rod send the bucktail a long way. Awesome casting

Rod is nice and light and surf spinning is a plesure and you do not tet tired.

Planning on doing a session next weekend again. Hopefully then I can hook a fish test the pulling power of the rod.

Rod handles the lighter weights alot better than my 10'6" dc oaval. My dc will be used for my clones and heavy spoons and the TSG for my bucktails and paddle tails

Weather has just not being playing his part and this weekend it seems like if we are going to get 3m swell. If not big swells then I will be hitting the surf to give the rod test 2.

Craig, please refresh me, I cant remember, what range in 2 -7 oz average in 10 -11 ft rod blanks do you have in dc oval?

Do you have any developments into something in the shoregame range in similiar spec? You know what and what type of fishing its for so wont bother with that, but youll know what Im looking for. Really getting frustrated with the quality of our local quality rods now. Really hoping something in a 2-5oz , deadlift 4-5kg, multiplier action comes our way from you.

Must be light too.....just had to mention that.

I would imagine that the DC Oval 12" 3-5oz might be a blank that you would consider.

This is a very specific and very small/niche market.

The cost of developing a blank/rod to meet the criteria spec just won't be recovered in sales.

Our market is so tiny on a global scale that our rods are bought up out of international product ranges to kind off match the requirements.

This rod/blank you are looking for would cost in the region of R40-50k to develop and we know the market so in year 1 we would have to recover the development cost.

If the rod is a huge success well sell 150.... and we have so that's R500 per rod to the price. If it's not a success or doesn't hit the sales we sit with the development costs and 150 rods in dead stock that can't be sold and because it is a niche product we can't sell it for an alternate use.

So if you consider the above you'll see that these rods will have to be selected and badtardused from a rod already in the market.

I'm working on something for Anton in this line but once again hid specs differ from yours..

Bottom line is the deadlift up a rock face differs from dead lift into a boat and deadlift vs lifting a thrashing tail differs hugely.

To deadlift a 6kg thrashing tail you need a rod that can deadlift a 15 lead weight.

Low weight means thin wall's means failure of blanks in deadlift
