I put the belly hanger right under the weights so it is closer to the head.

Progress - Finished shaping and first coat of MS filler primer down.

Some sanding tonight and base coat.

What's the reason for this bud.... Is it to increase the "forward" weight (ballast + hook) for better action?

2 reasons

1 - Fish like Dorado always strike at the head = hook closer to the strike zone.
2 - By having the hook right by the ballast means less swinging of the hook to throw the lure off balance. Keeps all the weight centered.

Well that's my theory any way!

Nice crafty hand work. Well done. I have 2 questions. How would you know if the balls are at the back of the lure before casting? Wont the balls be perm stuck infront at the magnet, and how do you release the balls once stuck to the magnet?

That makes a lot of sense! This increases the hook-up potential on both fish that grabs the head and those that tend to slash the tail. On the lures I am making for garrick I also have more of a throat hanger than a belly hanger for the front hooks for the same reason.

The force of acceleration in the cast pushes the balls back and off the magnet.

Some big lure company is definitely going to steal your patent, genius! Why dont you sell the registered patent. Its going to cost you R5000 to register your patent.

LOL, Not the first time it's been done! But maybe they will offer me a job?

Oh yes, I have actually been offered a job designing lures! ;)

Sand paper!

As for a symmetrical shape, measure measure measure! Oh, and you learn to "feel". Sand 5 strokes one side, 5 strokes another. Also watch this Japanese bloke - Ginei!

Although it takes me 10 times longer with more sanding.

Will have to find that video...

Gave it a whirl. Works very well! The action is great with either a slow or fast retrieve. Floating but on the retrieve it sits just below the surface!

Nou weet ek wat ek kan doen as ek eendag afgetree is en by die see kan gaan woon, veral op die dae wat mens nie met die boot kan uit of op die rotse kan gaan staan nie!
