so I got the hybrid bearings and fitted them.
luckily I took some pictures.

of the fitment as well as the worn out old drive shafts.

just need to compile some reports, so will post later tonight

here are the hybrid bearings for the torium 30.
they measure 5mm inner dia
9mm outer dia and 3mm wide.
they have rubber seals which assists in servicing them

a new washer "black" was fitted.
a new copper washer was also fitted onto the drive shaft.
it is there to prevent the outer race of rubbing against the drive shaft although a shoulder is present.

so, the bearing now present.
I like a tight fit....lol

on the inside I still used a copper / brass washer.
I did not want too much play in the system.
like this....not much play is present.
a new circlip was also fitted.

it is worn out quite badly.

I do have a further concern about the drive shaft system on this reel.

look again at the drive shaft which is worn out.
the brass/ copper bush it runs on is also visible.


I measured the brass drive shaft.
it should be 5mm thick.
the area where the bush was running on was worn down to about 4,2mm.

so 0,8mm is quite a lot for any reel.

here the brass bush is fitted.
one can see that the drive shaft has also worn off a bit on a area not from the brass bush.

this area is from the aluminum frame section which caused it to wore out

Hi Willem, Toriums have always had metal frames, it is the left side plate that is plastic with a metal covering

maar as jy na die eerste post se foto's kyk sal jy sien dat iets uitgetrek moet word.

en dit met n tap en die set en n hammer word ook gebruik om hom uit te tik.

net soe iets anders.

I inspected the copper bush on which the drive shaft ran.
fitting a 5mm drill bit through it....not much play is present.

thus it is clear that the brass drive shaft is wearing off much quicker then anything else.

its just loose.
looks like yours is seized. the circlip keeps the shaft in place.
so with the shaft out, the bushing just needs to come out on its own.
