Middle of July!! Fantastic fish guys! I put an offer in on a Bass boat yesterday at a local auction, waiting to hear if I got it? We want details (boat motor etc) which auction was this - absa?
Ryan I am most certainly keen to hit the water with you soon! What waters do you fish, I see Roodeplaat and Roodekoppies in the pics, any others?Fish what is closest - been prefishing the vaal for a bass compo this weekend so my bucks have been goin there -these two dams have proliferations of barbel and they are good practice Arena's but the barbel are range bound 5-10kgs now and then we pull a buss. I have access to Lasts farm and Slaughters at the Vaal dam where Terry Babich has caught some huge mermaids in the secluded bays in and around these farms on fly, im sure a slider would get hammered in these bays! i think his last beast was 24kg, seen a pic at a friends cabbin at Slaughters. I am very keen for this but the vaal is defs a Summer venue the water needs to get up around 21c for it to be worthwhile - first rains are really good time when the water levels start rising.
The klopstock sounds interesting, seems very heavy though. I was thinking a good Shimano baitcaster loaded with some casting braid and a strong Berkly fire rod or Fenwick crank stick? Klop stok serves a different purpose it is normally used to call barbel but in winter the barbel are very skittish - Marno will verify this one wrong foot fall and they are gone and the stick allows you to gently present the Loodkop in the right way - it is often refused for some or other reason. I am also keen to see you hold a barbel on 50cm of line......
When you hitting the water again Ryan?I am on the vaal this weekend maybe next weekend?
Thanks again guys for the enthusiasim and response, I am ready to search for some record busting mermaids with a good bunch of guys! Yeah 4 sure
