Middle of July!! Fantastic fish guys! I put an offer in on a Bass boat yesterday at a local auction, waiting to hear if I got it? We want details (boat motor etc) which auction was this - absa?

Ryan I am most certainly keen to hit the water with you soon! What waters do you fish, I see Roodeplaat and Roodekoppies in the pics, any others?Fish what is closest - been prefishing the vaal for a bass compo this weekend so my bucks have been goin there -these two dams have proliferations of barbel and they are good practice Arena's but the barbel are range bound 5-10kgs now and then we pull a buss. I have access to Lasts farm and Slaughters at the Vaal dam where Terry Babich has caught some huge mermaids in the secluded bays in and around these farms on fly, im sure a slider would get hammered in these bays! i think his last beast was 24kg, seen a pic at a friends cabbin at Slaughters. I am very keen for this but the vaal is defs a Summer venue the water needs to get up around 21c for it to be worthwhile - first rains are really good time when the water levels start rising.

The klopstock sounds interesting, seems very heavy though. I was thinking a good Shimano baitcaster loaded with some casting braid and a strong Berkly fire rod or Fenwick crank stick? Klop stok serves a different purpose it is normally used to call barbel but in winter the barbel are very skittish - Marno will verify this one wrong foot fall and they are gone and the stick allows you to gently present the Loodkop in the right way - it is often refused for some or other reason. I am also keen to see you hold a barbel on 50cm of line......

When you hitting the water again Ryan?I am on the vaal this weekend maybe next weekend?

Thanks again guys for the enthusiasim and response, I am ready to search for some record busting mermaids with a good bunch of guys!  Yeah 4 sure

On another subject When did you go to Bassa's?

Morning Ryan,

Its a Tug bass 2008 model on 2008 trailer, 40hp Mariner, Trolling motor on the front, fish finder and centre consol, very nice boat, I did not get it tho, I bid R18000 and it soled for R19500, what a bargain anyways!! It was at ABSA in Boksburg.

Thats cool, hows the pre fishing been going, trust you have found a good comp wining area, good luck bud! Looks like a front this weekend tho? Checked buoy weather this morning. These two sound great, nothing wrong with a 5 to 10kg fish! Can you fish them from the bank?

50cm of line! Bring it on! So its pretty much hit and hold, I need to investegate one, will phone blue marlin this morning, have a contact there.

Cool lets keep in touch about next weekend then, appriciate this Ryan! Also when it warms up and we get some rain we will defenately hit the Vaal, spoke to Julian from Shimano, they got fish up to 25kg there last season on art lure.

Bassas Da India...was there for two weeks in July. Sailed with a mate from Richards bay, difficult and dangerous to get there but I now know that a fishing eden does exist, I broke all PB's there and pulled fish till I couldent anymore! It really is the most amazing fishing, adventure and experiance! When 50kg Kingfish get eaten by Brindle bass you know your in an untouched place. Doing another trip 20 Ill send you some pics from Bassas.

They were babies 11 and 12 kgs. Bloemhof barbel are loooong fish. Annually the artlure guys take 20kg +mammas there. Biggest I heard last season was 29kgs. All taken buddy casting and "Klopping" these babies were caught i December "Klopping" and they were on the spawn - I do however believe tis is not the time to target them as they were very thin and in poor condtion (tooo much "hompie pompie" me thinks).
Nov Dec is barbel spawn time.
Carp is a month before the barbel.
Heard some interesting stories about "Klopping" at night in Bloemhof.............

Interesting man, I gave these fish round 15kg, they are extreamly long fish and also very thin, these two have defenately been two very busy mermaids during the spawn! I suppose when your as atractive as a freshwater mermaid your bound to get lots of action!.......LOL!

Thanks for the info on the spawn, I always thought they spawned round september!

29kg!!! So when we going? Ill pack the light tackle ^^..??????

Whats buddy casting for mermaids! We do it for Kingfish where I will throw the plug and begin the retrive whilst the next guy will throw behind me and retrive behind my plug causing more spray and action on the water! The GT's love it and normally hit the plug in the front very hard! Is it similar for mermaids?

Yeah same sort of thing except no retrieve cast on the same spot 2 or 3 times and just let it sink then everything goes tight and all hell breaks loose............ Good sports though
