Time for ANOTHER one

I have a cronic allergy for Diawa reels - but this is a personal preference I have had several "Diawa's" let me down and I therefore refuse to use them these days

Ryan, does your unfortunate "chronic allergy" to Daiwa also extend to their salwater range (Sealine SLOSH, Saltist and Saltiga) or is it just their smaller bass/ freshwater baitcasters?

Daiwa.... mmmm....

If they had to make an advert for Daiwa freshwater baitcasters, they could take the latest Coca Cola add and just modify it from Brrrrr to Grrrrrrrrr as undoutably at some time in the early life of a Daiwa reel you will hear this when trying to cast and it just screws the gears up completely... and YES, I even know of a Steez that has done this at R4K a pop I wouldn't expect that, but alas. It seems there is a common problem on Daiwas that forbid them to disengage 100% when you push the thumb bar down to cast. If you don't consciously push the bar with purpose each time, you will eventually have a semi engaged reel on the cast and the teeth on it's gears just get poked completely from this occurence....

Bottom line, buy Shimano Curados and Abu Revo range and you won't go wrong. I have a few budget type Quantums as well, and while they have never let me down to date, they just don't feel as solid at the Curados or the Revos.

EIISH!!

Thanks for the info, Revo!

The Revos are realtively new, but the consensus is they are great ... Curados have a solid track record and the general feeling and feedback (from Bassing sites and Forums in the USA) is you cannot go wrong with a Curado ...

So there we have it: top low profile Bassing reels for which to fork out your hard-earned cash, are Shimano Curado and ABU Revo!

Well I wouldn't go as far as to say they are the top of the pops, but they are very good mid range value. There are Shimano Calais that are awesome, and even the new Penn baitcaster range feels unbelievable in the hand, but I have not fished with them. I have had a throw or two with a Calais and they are superior to the curados in terms of weight, but that comes at a small premium.

Saw the new Curado E model at Basil Manning over the weekend. Nice!

Also held a Revo Inshore and Premium - VERY nice!

Perhaps the Revos have the edge in terms of drag power and performance ...

Bigbass - I have had the Diawa SL50SH and the Diawa Sl50SHVK Saltwater reels - 8 month's and both reels pinion gears packed up after a couple of GT's on Plugs - intially I thought it was just the SL 50 and so "Upgraded" to the grandwave and was also let down. I was so dissappointed with Diawa that I went for a Trinidad 30 and I have never looked back and that was 5 years ago and I have pulled herds of big GT's on it without a days trouble. This is even before I get to the freshwater goodies.
Me and Diawa's are not China's.
I agree wholeheardtdly that Shimano's are the way to go but sadly these days you are paying for a name - there are equal alternatives at a better price - the Abu Revo is an example or the Johnny Morris's.
ANyways as I said I abuse equipment - I catch 15kg+ barbel on my bass tackle - anything that is delecate is in for a beating..........

Thanks for the info, Ryan! Always good to hear about the experiences of others ...

Have you posted your experiences with Daiwa on the Saltwater section of SEALINE? :lol:1
