Tiger Rod and Reel

I am looking for recommendations for gear for tiger fishing. Both rod and reel
Most reports I have read recommend a medium heavy 7' rod. But no-one mentions the lure weight.
I will be using Afri Jig Bulldog lures. 3/4 oz
But want to be able to change lure weights (better lures may come on the market etc)

Thanks in advance

Good day Tim,

For tiger rods min i would use would be 1oz-2 1/2 oz casting weight , you could go lighter but, tigers are hard on gear....

Will this rod handle 1/2oz lures?

I am asking because I used an Adrenalin Modularis Spin 210-70 EVO - 7' 2.10 m/2s Act H rod with a c/w of 3/8 - 2oz, with a Cedros CJ-4000H reel.
With light lures, I kept getting knots in the braid line when casting. Very frustrating!

Thanks

Good day Tim,

Yes casting weight starts at 1/2 oz, what strength braid are you using? another tip is to leave a longer length of line out before casting that way you can load the rod up better before casting/ releasing.

Thanks Jonathan

What would you perfect setup be? Rod, Reel, Braid strength
Lure weights: 14 g - 25g

Braid to wire trace or
Braid, monofilament leader to wire trace

Thank you

Hi Tim,

My rod would be the mentioned Tiger tamer V1 in 7.4 Ft matched with 3000-4000 sized reel, your Cedros is perfect for that and personally my favorite braid is diawa J braid 15 lbs, this line has never let me down, diameter is a bit thicker than stated on the box but zero issues no wind knots and always breaks at the leader when stuck having been using the same line on my reels for 2 -3 years now, leader wise look at Flouro 30 -40 lbs then tie to wire, in my opinion flouro is way more abrasive and stiffer, nothing wrong with Mono if budget is an issue, this rod will also be perfect for monster bass and Lerries/Kob very versatile set up.

Best regards
