Thought I’d give a report on what’s been coming out of the Musandam lately aboard Al Sayyad. Although the season got off to a later start than usual we are currently in the thick of things with some good size GT’s coming out. The bigger fish have been really aggressive and in great physical condition and appear to be entering their spawning period obviously making up for lost time!  

When it comes to lure choice both poppers and stick baits are proving effective in the different locations the GT’s congregate in, with the bigger sizes generally proving the most effective. We’ve also been having fun with the jigs when conditions are right catching GT’s, Amberjack and Kingfish and the odd steam train that we have been unable to stop!

We’ve had a couple of monster fish take lures but have yet to put one on the boat leaving more than a few anglers swearing revenged and a few more just swearing at everything in general but these are the moments that keep us coming back for more punishment!

Hi Guys

Its been a while since I've added anything to the Popping section so here's a few pictures of the better GT's that came out over the weekend. Conditions were a bit rough with bumpy seas and stiff winds but the guys handled it like champions and those that persevered were rewarded nicely. Top spot goes to Werner with a fat GT of 104 cm which would have weighed in at around 25 Kilo's. Heinrich van Niekerk also gets an honorable mention for his first ever GT which was well over 20 KG.

The Couta were also around in big numbers and we had multiple strikes each day but couldn't make them stick, still its always a good laugh watching a big Spanish Mackeral come flying out the water with a popper sideways in its mouth like a dog with a bone!

After a busy couple of weeks in Dibba a few of us decided to sneak out for a day’s fishing. Anura our legendary Sri Lankan guest house manager, Theo from Nomads diving and myself set off at dawn for the Musandam. The bravado and chirps were running high aboard Al Sayyad on the trip out and everyone was chomping at the bit to get stuck into the geets.
On our first drift the boat had barely come to a halt and Anura had banged out a 100gr Cubera two pumps of the rod and he went tight Theo was right behind him casting out a 150 gr Cubera and again a couple of twitches and we had a double up meanwhile I was still putting my gloves on!

We drifted past a three more times and pulled out four more fish the nicest falling for a pink and chrome Siren which happened to be attached to my Hot’s 711 after a nice tussle I boated a nice GT of about 20 kilos.

We changed spots and were rewarded with a double up on our first drift again with Theo and myself going tight with our lures only a few meters away from each other. We boated the two best fish of the day both healthy specimens in the mid-twenties a couple of snapshots and they were back in the water.

By now the knees and arms were slightly on the shaky side so we headed out to a shallow reef for a bit of light tackle action to cool off as we arrived we found a huge shoal of Scads going ballistic and we proceeded to have 45 minutes of light tackle mayhem, they may not be the biggest or the hardest fighting fish in the ocean but I swear it’s like opening a can of Pringles and saying you’ll only have one!

For those of you coming out to the Musandam soon the fish are favouring larger stick baits in natural colours fished slowly.

Epic moments - Great catches peeps. Used to do the Musandam trips out of DXB while living out there...was fantastic.
