Hey Reef, i stand to be corrected, but i fish with a 14ft graphite, custom built 400/0, so its got alot of whip, and i get a real decent throw with my sl30, actually it throws much better than with my sl50 on a stiffer stick... I always thought that an sl30 and a 14ft lite stick, would be the best bet for a distance throw... so u say that a 13ft lite would give me a better throw, i need to test that theory out!!!

Mel, Any smaller diameter line is going to go further than thicker line... and a smaller reel is going to "generally" spin faster too... further throw. You right about the distance with smaller reel, big rod and small line = further. BUT, what happens when you hook into that 30kg Kingie at Vidal with .40 (25lb) line on your sl30?

On the other hand, using a sl30 on a stiff stick is just gonna feel like 'nothing' - no control... how big a sinker can you use on .40 line? In other words.... (am I making ANY sense here :help)... the Beachmaster is rated to throw 8oz and even handles 10oz... so to use a 5oz sinker, which is about the max you're going to use on .40 line on a sl30, you won't even come close to loading the rod with a 5oz... just ain't balanced.

I have an Exage 10ft rod that I use an SL30 with, a beaut light tackle combo that gets decent distance too.

its easy to find the R1000 , just give up one of ur vices for 2-3 mths and u can have a new rod.

i quit smoking 1.5 years ago , thats a saving of R700 a mth alone. So u do that math and see how much of fishing tackle u can buy with the money.

Is the beach master a 14 ft or a12.6 ft , will it combine nicely with  slh30??

I Hear u Reefman, its just that i'm more comfortable with a 14ft, cos i usually fish in a crowd for edibles, and when u cross over and u got a 10ft, some of these monkeys dont want to drop their rods, so with a 14ft, i can just sail over them, no problem... I understand what u saying about balance, i just dont like fishing with a heavy sinker... but with the new heavier type rods, u have to go with a 6/7oz sinker to get the balance of the kit... I love fishing with a 3/4oz sinker on my 14ft, with my sl30, its just fishing with ease... and i know what you saying about hooking into a monster kingie cos i did at Vidal on my 1st trip, he almost stripped me, i managed to get him close and then he got on the edge of the ledge and burnt me off, so i hear u... But i guess "its each to their own", and its what you're comfortable with... I'd love to get your advice when we at Vidal...Thanks

Ok, back to normal broadcasting it is. Heres my dream kit:

-Custom made, 1 piece 14ft graphite rod with Fuji guides and reel seat.(for shark)
-Torium 30 with braid and 16kg line(for shark)
-Assasssin Beachmaster with trigger winch(for edibles)
-Another Torium 30 with braid and 13kg line(for edibles)
-Fishing bag with Hooks 3/0-10/0
                  Sinkers 4oz-10oz
                  swivells of every kind
                  Flourocarbon
                  Sliders x 10
                  Knife, hook file, pliers, scisors
                  Ghost cotton x 5
                  Spinners x 5
                  Trace wire
                  Tape Measure
                  A headlamp

-A bait box
-A aluminum 1.8m rod holder
-and last of all and MOST important a comfortable bucket.

And the best part about all this is, I own it all already.:bflip

Now that Nick has mentioned his dream kit and the fact that he already owns it, it makes me feel free to do the same:

Baitcaster gear:

1.  1 x 7" Quantum PT Tour Med Baitcaster Rod fitted with a Quantum Energy PT Burner 7:1 gear ratio baitcaster reel with 12pound Halo Fluro.

2.  1 x 6,10" Quantum PT Tour Heavy Baitcaster Rod fitted with a Quantum Energy PT Burner 7:1 gear ratio baitcaster reel with 20pound X-calibur Fluro.

Spinning Gear:

1.  1 x Quantum PT Tour Med/Heavy Spinning Rod fitted with a Quantum Quickfire (with firing pin) reel with 14pound X -calibur Fluro.

Tackle box/es with almost every type/colour/size soft plastic

Tackle box/es with at least 50 hard baits (rapalas, strike pro's etc) and 20 spinnerbaits and 20 chatterbaits

Terminal tackle:

1.  Overstocked tackle box with all the dropshot, bullet and clip on weights, swivels beads, clip-on's, rattle's nail sinkers, spinning blades, all shapes/makes/sizes hooks

2.  Backup spools of fluro line for each reel

Other tackle:

1.  Berkley lip grip scale.

2.  Rubber ducky with trawling motor (probably a small bass boat soon)

3.  Hummingbird 526 Fish finder

4.  Toyota Land Cruiser 70, 4,5l petrol to transport everything around.

5.  Most important a wallet to replenish and upgrade all the time

Nice thing about my ultimate tackle list is that I too like Nick, own all of the above already........

Oh and three full sets of flygear rods, reels, spare magazines with additional line 1000's of flies, waders, landing nets jackets etc.

Ok, so I don't get to do any rock and surf fishing anymore these days, after 5 years in the Caribbean, you kinda lose it... well keen to get back into it, but I know nothing about modern day surf rods so I'll replace them with these:

1 x 3 Piece 8'6" Cape Fear Hextec Casting 25lb to 40lb Rating( Fast Action Heavy Power )
Matched with a Shimano Torsa 20 or Accurate Boss 280

1 x 3 Piece G.Loomis 8'6" Travel Spinning 25lb to 40lb Rating ( Ultra Fast Action Heavy Power )
Matched with a Shimano Stella 10000 or Accurate Twinspin 30 or Van Staal 300

Both reels spooled with Power Pro Braid or Stren Super Braid

Light Spinning Rod - G.Loomis 3 Piece Travel 7'6" 12lb to 20lb ( Ultra Fast Medium Power )
Matched with a Shimano Stella 4000.

And seeing as we are dreaming here, I'll throw in a pair of Shimano Trevala Deep Jigging Rods, one casting and one spinning, matched with Torsa and Stella and 80 lb Braid and a full Shimano Butterfly Jig Kit.

And an 8' G.Loomis 3 Piece Casting stick, with a Shimano Calcutta 400 or 700, depending on conditions...

And of course then there is fly tackle....

I guess you could say I have expensive tastes!!!!!!

Ok, I think that the ulimate fishing kit consists of a "wife" that allows you to indulge in a hobby/sport that you are passionate about :) . (for married men that is, otherwise Teasers will do for the single dudes)
