Tomson, I have been following this thread and will try answer as follows.

(Taken that my answer is from a customer (buyer) point of view and not from a sellers view)

Taken into consideration what all the other guys said I personally would like to see and have the following in a tackle shop

First.

A tackle shop who has its products priced so that you dont have to ask for a better price or compare labelled prices to other stores.

Meaning,

The price displayed is the price you pay. There are just some people that walk into any store read the displayed price and react on that, they are either to shy, or just dont bother to ask for discount.

When speaking to other anglers they then respond to the displayed price by saying "dont buy there, you must see what the stuff costs" which actually is far from the truth as he could maybe eg received a 20% discount which in turn would have made that store directly competitive if not cheaper.

A good example is go to 5 diff tackle shops and ask the price on any Trinidad reel, My bet is that you will go home with 5 diff prices.

Secondly.

A good product display.

People buy with their eyes firstly, " hey have yo SEEN this new xxxxx whatever" only then does everyone start enquiring further.

Same principal, motor manufacturers start advertising a car before its launched, getting peoples eyes used to it first, and then later giving the details.

Thirdly

Product knowledge is of great importance, not only knowing the product but assessing the persons situation when asking for advice.

eg. No use selling a first time R&S angler a multiplier (trini 50) and HMG rod, because he has seen other R&S use this. Poor guy has never casted with a multiplier in his life.

Rather guide him in the right direction and help him by explaining he will first have to learn to cast etc, etc,

Rather make a smaller sale, say on a grinder and cheaper rod, but you know this guy was not frustrated on the beach, but also knowing he will support you in the future.

Fourthly.

Get a GOOD COURIER coupled to a GOOD SUPPLIER.

It is impossible to keep the whole range of tackle on the market, but its not impossible to offer the person the whole range available.

Meaning.

Display product's virtually, and stating that you could have any of these items not stocked, in the shop say in 48 hrs.

If your price /delivery  is right 48 hrs makes to diff.

Lastly

All the best with your venture, keep the forum informed on the progress.

Simon, that is great thank you and that is what we want. It is the input of a buyer, as at the end of the day it is you the customer that wants to enjoy your experience and feel comfortable, relaxed and know you will  NOT be ripped off.. Great comments.

I will keep all posted as we move through the stages of progress.

Stage 1 is to first get as much input from the anglers, then to create the plan of action from the comments to put an ideal angling shop together.

what about some sort of voyager/ frequent flyer card where you get credits for tackle bought/ $ spent, and can then redeem them on more tackle!!

Another thing is convinient safe parking, Suburban's parking area can be a nightmare!

I like it Fanie, it's all about service, and client satisfaction, the money is just an extra add on for the hard work put in.

I would love to see a new tackle shop in cape town since we have a lack of them and they are ridiculously priced!
Please open as soon as possible!

Hi unfortunately it won't happen, the size of the shop and idea I was looking at, is not really backed up by the suppliers. They are like telkom and eskom, trying to make it a monopoly and you have have a shit load of cash to open accounts with them for your first order and they want to dictate where you can open as they want to first see where your shop will be before they will supply you. there is too much red tape. I cant even start an online shop as they say I have to have a shop, so I cant even buy from them for an online shop only.

Sorry about that. It's a pity, but what can you do.

Maybe you can give lessons on how toe cast or just give pointers on how toe better your distance on the casting range with a price of course because knowledge don't come cheap

hi there Tomson
what i would like to see is a proper POS system where all stock is barcoded and scanned at the till with price being displayed for each item.
most guys have a simply till or just a calculator and when i make larger purchases(many items) items are rung up more that once.
this will give customers piece of mind

that would be great... test cast before you buy.

i imagine then the sales would be down... just see salesman having nitemares having to undo overwinds :fbash:fbash

Now that's the bloody truth, what the heck is up with the tackle shops in the Western Cape, they never have stock.

I have to beg, plead, weal and deal in order to get the stuff I want.
