I was on a charter boat catching snoek and the skipper tied on that heavy flouro.
(I was the "deckie"/ assistant vlekker. And to think those Kalk Bay days are considered wasted.)
You cold see where the snoek had nicked the line but it held and even allowed us to pull a snoek out of a seal's mouth.
On another note. Are you seriously telling me that people catch sharks for money. Like to sell... for meat...

I only fin sharks these days jb2. Its much kinder. You can take what you need and still release the shark alive. We don't cut all the fins off either. That would be cruel.
Its those silly longlinres we pass while running out to the tuna grounds that concern me.
Who in gods name would eat a blue shark?
Anyway, they do a good job in keeping the blues at bay. Sometimes.
I get positively demonic when I see a blueshark in the chumline and things get ugly.......
Anyway, back to topic.
Speaking of Kalk Bay, when we used to fish the Ooswal for kob, geelbek, stump and what have you, Elf were often dik as flies.
Never ever used a wire on our handlines, and caught bins of the stuff.
Like catching barbel.
