My phone got wet once before while fishing, it's fixed R850 later...
Hiya Guys,
My Communicator 9300i went in the drink about a year ago. I placed it in rice and in the warm draw over night. Worked 'fine' the next day, but as each day passed a little something went wrong until a week later it was stuffed.
On friday night my N997 went in the drink and accorning to Mark Noval it simply went 'buzz' in his hand before the lights went out. Tried the rice and warming draw thing...but its dead!
I also tried MTN first time around, but the repair bill was crazy. Salt water...I'm told takes a few days to start the corrosion andthereis no way of stopping the damage to the fine PC boards on these phones.
Kissed my phone goodbye on Sat morning!

Can promise you If it hits or even TOuches the Sea water with even a little charge left in the phone you can kiss it bye bye .
The Current in the phone acts like a zinc Anode , and the Salt in the water acts violently to any form of charge .

The answer to all the problems is the good old Nokia 5110. I had one that went into the drink more than once, if it gives a prob gooi it against the wall, assemble and make your call. Then it got stolen, miss that phone a mil!

until someone brings out a Decent camera in a Modern water resistent phone , I'm sticking to the Plastic Bag ...
Only reason i don't stick my camera in there is because i Think the Lens Might get damaged if i turn it on . The Lens Mos extends out forwards .

if you have your phone soaked in salt water, best is to rinse it off with tap water (its already soaked anyways)
The salt water causes more corrosion and u have to get it out
Trophy mentioned his phone got progressively worse before eventually dying. it’s because with time the board starts corroding. so if the phone gets wet and u dry it, it may work for a while but that does not mean u dodged a bullet.
most networks/repair centres will not repair liquid damaged phones because of this.
best thing to do is remove the battery immediately. then dismantle as much of the phone as possible and use a hair dryer to dry it up. leave it for a few days before switching on.
this has worked for me with 3 different phones so far
phone insurance will charge normal excess + R500 liquid damage excess. so check before making a claim. it may be better to have the phone "get lost" and do a claim instead of claiming for liquid damage
