TCP from the UK is being imported illegally into South Africa as it has not been registered with the department of Health. There is a product called TCA which is nothing like the old TCP and is also being sold illegally as it has no registrations either with the MCC nor the NRCS. See the packaging for verification.

Unfortunately we have no control on how much individual shops choose to mark up their 3CP. R43.99 is quite excessive.
We provide a RRP of R37.00 which has a margin for a store to make a fair profit.
Consider that Cash & Carry's (which usually supply traders) wholesale it for R23.00 Incl VAT so one can deduce that a retail price of R34 - R37 is acceptable.
If you are an avid fisherman and need larger quantities then I suggest that C&C's are a better option rather than the local pharmacy.
I am sure that within the next 6 months the pricing will stabilize as competition increases amongst retailers. It will soon be coming to Clicks, Dis-Chem, Pick n Pay, Checkers and Spar on a national basis.

I am not sure I understand why you see a difference in the ingredients.
The bottle of TCP I have in front of me manufactured by Chefaro in the UK states:
Halogenated Phenols 0.68% w/v, Phenol 0.175% w/v, Glycerol, phosphoric acid, and E104
The 3CP label states:Halogenated Phenol 0.695% w/v, Phenol 0.175% w/v, glycerol, sodium salicylate, phosphoric acid, and E104.
There is a very slight difference in the quantity of halogenated phenols of 0.015% and UK TCP does not state sodium salicylate. The reason for this is that the UK manufactured version does not use the original South African made TCP formula, and if you saw the old SA TCP label as well as the MCC registered formula one would see the inclusion of the sodium salicylate.
