Steve, I"ve caught a few on the mountain ( Voorberg + Boskloof ) you also get some nice ones at Ganzekraal!! best time for them is round about now onwards, early morning/ First light!

The trace i used for then was a 8/0 biting trace ( Half steel : half nylon )

the bait I've had most success on is Chokka and Mullet combo or a Mullet / mackie head.

oh one more thing i forgot to mention foam is also very important!!! Its not necessary but i think it definately increases your pick-ups and success!!

Hi, when you come down i'l take you to catch a few, they have been around lately, as for what bait it depends on their mood, but generaly a mullet head is king, but resently they have been taking frigate heads, they are getting spoilt...

This is the average size, they do get bigger but not often anymore.

Caught them on mackerel and chokka... Would like to improve my pb this winter. Seems we get them the same time the black rays are around, then later in the season they leave and the cow sharks come in. Standard 2x 10/0 slide trace works, single circle too. They bleed a lot so dont freak out lol

Hi

I use a 7/o bandit and a 4/o mustad as a trap hook, i only bait the bottom hook and the top hook does the damage...

With float, i prefer float, the deeper the water the larger the float.

Why does the bait need to float mic ?
roland we mostly only catch them down here in the cape at deep water spots , it gets the bait off the bottom and makes it more noticable i guess?? It just seems to work. remember the places like the mountain etc are very deep like 14 meters plus hey!!

Its scary stuff actually, but thats why we catch all those funny things off the mountain like thresher sharks etc... !!! I fished a spot called West point.....Dammit its deep there, seriously deep like 14 meters x 2....no matter how far you cast your line just goes down at your feet!!!! Its also one of the most dangerous spots on the mountain , esp. in a rough sea!!! I was told about someone in WP drowning there in a league comp a few years ago... Not cool!
