@Riekert, since you mentioned steenbras off the Struis plaat, just out of interest - have you ever targeted them on lures?
Personally it's been an ambition of mine to hook a big steenie on lures, but I haven't had much success. The largest one I managed to date was around 50cm, on a bucktail in the Knysna lagoon.
I find the smaller ones are pretty easy to catch with bucktails in the deeper channels, but I don't yet know what's secret to lure success with the bigger boys.

..To get a piggy on spoon is still my goal and dream...and YES they will take a lure, albeit they are skitterish AND given the right temp water , and here along our East Coast , it would be in the 12 to 14 degrees after at least two to three days east and the water must be off colour to grubby and go look at sandy bottoms with lotsa ghost crabs around.....Nice slowish retrieve , not quite on the bottom and in lotsa white water.....Im getting closer...:spite

Hehe...You see now ..jy het nou gekrap waar dit jeuk nie...BUT..to answer your question...not yet...BUT..when that east presents itself and that water temp gets to where it needs to be I have at least 3 good spots here to go look for them...about five years ago I was gooing spoon in a flat cold off colour sea on one of our local beaches...testing out some line and 2 newish spoons....AND I get slammed and HARD..this was no kob and it made 2 very strong fast n sharp runs and the hook pulled..to this day I swear that was a piggy...
