I have read that a number of Sealiners were planning trips to their favorite fishing venues the past weekend, but alas, no reports have been submitted till now. So I'm going to be brave and post the suffering we endured
After arriving rather late at my Boet's place after a braai, I was amased at my ability to pack all the necesary tackle for our club comp at Steyns. I woke up wondering where I was and remembered the angling. But I started getting the "bang-B" if I indeed packed everything. My doubts were vindicated. We set of an hour late (obviously) and arrived at a misty and cold Steyns. I hoped to get a fish in close early before going deep with the second rod and cast in at roughly 50m. I think I had TAC on the bol. No wait, I DID have TAC on the bol.
uke On the 2nd rod a put on my favorite combo of Devilsfork and FX and cast a good cast out deep. After a good 1hr20min I had the faintest of bites on the 2nd rod and manage to land a grasscarp of 0,3kg on my first cast
The rest of the day went really slow. To my left was Rampokker and Koekies. But nobody were standing at their stands further down either.
My 2nd fish I only got the afternoon....a 1kg carp on a Vaaldam trace with a P3, also thrown as far as possible. I had Vicks and Lootie on the ball with HoneyGlow floaties and small swd on both hooks. As after thought, I dipped the top hook in Q35 (odd combo, I know). And that was that for the day for me. Boet blanked, but we are going to work on his casting to get distance.
I think Johan v Graan won the day with 6 or 8 fish. The juniors, surprisingly faire fairly well. Okay, the one kid that ended 2nd for the day (I think) now qualifies as a senior. Got a few pics of the juniors fish shown below.
