the Missus wants to go to st Lucia (no problem with that idea - should be able to squeeze in some time for her while I am Fishing)

but alas last time I was there was in 2000 - so what I am looking for is names of nice places to stay there and the name of the local anglers and tackle shop ( The last part is for me the accommodation is for the missus)

anyone been there lately especially after the mouth opened up ?

and what would be a good time to go

If you're going for edibles and the mouth is still open, the September Hols is the best time for the grunter and perch run, in the estuary/river.....good fun....fish through the night!

For accomodation etc. check out....

and for st lucia itself http://www.elephantcoast.kzn.org.za/ec/55.xml

and be sure to take a trip to Cape Vidal when you are there. Can even hire an old landy for the day if you need it!

Hey Raggieman

firstly, when r u going down?i can maybe get you accom.at a place called the Boma which is in central and right opposite the ocean Basket.I am going to be there from the 6-13 July and if you are there that time, maybe we could hook up.Last year off the boat we caught 9 raggies in total with the biggest weighing 190kg.Mind you we did not catch them with penn reels. We used bottom rigs with that big black scarborough.I intend going for them again this time.Last report I had was that the mouth area is worst than a bamboo forest.Too crowded.i know of lots of spots where i always catch my fish there when the mouth used to be closed. The place I am talking about is fully self catering and is home from home.Let me know.

Sorry,i forgot to mention that July is your hot time to be there. For the past 15 years I have been going there in either late june,July or Aug.Not much August as then the wind just pumps.July is your best bet.Pity that I will be there just after the spring tide.

Thanks Reefman.yeah I did see your pics.Absolutely drove me insane. That stumpie must have given you a nice fight. And that pomie.wow what a beauty. All these okes killing themselves at the mouth. That to me is not fishing man.One is supposed to enjoy and relax and not be stressed out.I will not be going anywhere near the mouth if it is going to be like that.I have my quiet spots where you throw your line out and at the same time you spend time with the family and make it a enjoyable for everybody.

Raggieman,I guess August will be the same mate but don't let it deter you. There are lots of other spots one can go and catch their fish.If I was to name them here,it would take a long time. When the mouth was closed,I used to go to Shad hole(current mouth),catch my live shad and then go to ''my spot'' and swim them out.I have had lots of luck. Now that the mouth is open,no way I am going to workmyself up by going there.Did you manage to find accom. though?let me know.

Cheers and wet 'em lines
