SQUID CLOSED SEASON??

During the past week end some guys fishing for Chokka in Simonstown were told that the season for Squid is closed until 22 November.

I have never heard of a closed season for squid and  have looked at the MCM brochures (it looks like their site is under construction) and can't find any reference.  I do my best to stay within the rules and this really baffles and irritates me no end.

Does anybody on this site know what the story is and where it was publicised?

There were 20 boats fishing for Chokka at one point.

Well I have now found the bit of legislation and I also know "ignorance of the law is no excuse" but HTF am I supposed to know it all and remain a law abiding angler!

Now I am confused.

I was always under the impresion that the closed season for squid (chokka) was from 25th October to the 22 November of each year. I have just checked up on the Information Brouchure 2008/2009 issued by MCM and it confirms my understanding.

I went into the web address above and see a complete set of different dates. The only question I have is whether the Gov Gaz No 30907 relates to commercial chokka fishermen and not recreations?

Can anyone HELP????????

@GSpot...your dates, according to what I found on the web, are correct, and to my understanding it relates to ALL forms of chokka fishing (the commercial guys probably need a holiday) ::jdfis
