Also hate red romans...as a kid I was chased down by one of these buggers whilst fishing at Kwena Dam (Braam Raubenheimer) in the lowveld...apparently they are sensitive to sunlight and chase after your shadow... Then later in my teens we went to a place near Louis Trichardt if I recall and there was a bloody infestation of these spiders and scorpions...these little buggers were everywhere around the pool! Absolutely hated that place and couldn't wait to get out of there!
Almost forgot...as a young boy in Nelspruit I went digging for earth worms with my uncle and grandfather so we could go fish for yellows in the Krokodil rivier. I sat on a waterpipe watching the grownups dig for worms...out of the corner of my eye this thing came charging over like a bull on steroids and sunk his teeth into my uncles ankle!!! He was wearing flipflops...squeeled like a girl he did!
As old as I am I am not scared to admit that I am sh*t scared of spiders whether Big or small...all the same to me!!!
That said I do not go out and kill them...

I did my master's dissertation on the envenomation of many types of arthropods.
The six-eyed sand spider (sicarius hahni) is thought to be the most dangerous on record of all spiders.
Over 38,000 species of Six Eyed Sand Spider have been identified, however, because of their great ability for hiding, it is believed that about 200,000 species exist.
The sica was an ancient dagger or short sword. Sicarius means "dagger-man". And that became the Latin word for "assassin".
They are quite rare and have several very unusual traits and abilities that are often overlooked. They qualify as a living fossil and possess extreme metabolic control enabling them to go for phenomenal periods of time without feeding. They are very shy and need substantial provocation to bite a human.
As far as I know only three people have been bitten by one, and they all perished.

That looks like a small rainspider..Eats geckos and moths etc..not humans, very docile..Of my favorite spidies
Nearly crapped myself trying to take the picture with the mobile phone... Know that it is poisonous but read that it is deadly for kids... Since I have a 6year old I went looking for it early this morning and it was nowhere to be found...only the webbing. Will try again this afternoon when its a little warmer out!

Yup brown widow..Just teach the kids what it is and how to ID and not to mess with it! They are not aggressive and shouldn't cause harm unless you grab it. They are everywhere when you start looking for them. I'm in the bush, there must be thousands outside my house..they are so common these guys.

Just the other day I was getting my tackle ready, and pulled out a box containing my spoons and spinners for my little shad trip.
Got the box out, snapped the 2 snappies open, took what I needed and closed it back up. Now still sitting next to this box, polishing this spoon, I see some legs twitching. And there pops out Miss Black Widow from right under the nook of the tacle box where the snappies are.
I ended up trying to figure out who missed who, did I miss pressing down on her, or did she miss striking her fangs in me claiming another male victim?
