Spanish Trawler off Durban

Probably one of the Spanish longliners that work outside 200nm on its way to Durban to offload.I don't think there's any Spanish boats using SA permits to work inside 200nm but there's quite a few Japanese boats that are.

If you take a look at marinetraffic now you can see him + 2 other Spanish boats berthed at Maydon Wharf.That's where they normally offload.

Thanks for your responces and yes there are three spanish trawlers docked in durban at the moment and if they are only allowed to only trawl 200nm from Durban it certainly is not happening.Who is sopposed to be policeing these guys or are our fisheries getting plundered again due to lack of recources?
please can you provide me with an e-mail address of someone i can forward the imfomation to that will at least give an answer on the subject!!

Well, I have fished behind one of them 9 miles out. Last weekend I saw one of them 15 miles offshore

That guys track was coming in from the east which i would expect to be normal if he's a longliner.

Sorry, when I say 300m I'm talking depth. They are fishing with nets way too big for prawns. They were 9 miles offshore.

There is no dought these guys are trawling in illegal waters if you zoom into his AIS track you will notice by the speed and directions he is travelling he started trawling around co-ords 29 52 2315 -031 063 3792 at 06h50 wich is 10km off our coast line!!!Yes they will say they are on there way to thier fishing grounds or on thier way back but who knows when they start or finnsh trawling and who is monitoring them??

I remember a while back guys like JB2 saying that unregulated unreported catches in the commercial sector is a bit of a myth and it is soooo tighly controlled and with indepedent observers onboard and now they have no comment, a bit of a cop out if you ask me?
