The tidal waves caused major damage to the road leading to south pier. You cannot drive to the pier, the furthest you can get is to the water works facility. From there you will have to walk.

I dont know if there are plans in place to repair the roads anytime soon.

Maybe someone else has some info on that.

South Pier is officially closed off and is now a construction site until 2009.
