And this is even before the catch and release started. Been going there as from the time when the dam was opened for the first time. Fished for Kempton Angling Club to stay and fish overnight at Blaauwpan. So maybe the carps started to know me that I would catch and release them thats why they always came to my bait. I can say also when I was a member with Kempton Angling Club, Overnight I would come to a no. of fish like 35 and 40. Even the 50's there sometimes. Depending the moon face and the weather.
Shino, I have stopped provincial angling on the freshwater side now about 5 years. Even club freshwater angling. I thought I would be a bit behind....but actually no, I am still allright, and maybe cause I have been in the freshwater part for about for about 20 years +.
As of the knowledge, that come from info you receive from other provinsial anglers, and springbok anglers.
From my side, I always think it's better to share on what you are doing, even when fishing trials and nationals. If by giving the bait away to people and those other people beat you, and least you shared your secret with others, and it proves that the other person is a bit better than you, so theres homework you have to do, why did he beat you after you gave the bait to him. What did he do better than what you have been doing.
Thats part where you have to do work again, and catch up on what you have missed.

Here is a tip with Koppies, who ever want to can do it or try it out.
Take Cinnamon and red lavender and mix it 50/50, and add alot of flourescene...(Green)
Thats a good Koppies dip, and even the ball dip and a spray. Works great...
As for the barbel, take a carp of about 1.5kg's, cut the head and used it. You shall be very impressed with the size of barbel you can catch at Koppies Dam with it. And as for the hook, used a 6/0 Daichi, sometimes even a 8/0 daichi with a 2kg's carp head or a yellowfish head.

I would suggest....take the bait boat with, but does not mean to use it. I would suggest casting. If the fishing is bad with everyone, then people that have bait boats can use them, and take the lines further, but if it's to use the bait boat, and only go +- 200m out, then I say we just don't use the bait boats, if to use bait boat ang go out like 400+ then, by all means use the bait boat. Up to the rest of the people as well to what they have to say on this part.
Like you say , people will be suprised at what Barbel that Koppies can deliver!!!
