small baits for small to medium cob exposed float

Wys jou net 'n lelike Dorperskaap pro lekkerder as mooi Merino. Net my glas PORT>:::S

i normaly have my float a next to my bait but there are time that i just adjust it for the hell of it.

rememer if the float is closet to the bait it will create more movement. the float serves no purpose if it is to far from the hook...

just my experience with the floats

this is how it works

the bait hangs off or hinges off the float, the slightest movement caused by tide current etc will push the float around, the float then hinges the hanging bait and in doing so creating more action it livens up the bait in calm conditions. also excellent for trolling off the bottom. the float can be pulled back to create a more natural swimming effect.

mostly used off ledges/ deep spots on calm days from about 2hrs before to around dead low tide

what i also found was that the 2-5kg cob are fussy and dont like the foam on the west coast is cooler than anywhere else in SA, this is fact they dont open their mouths properly when the water is cold.

we tested the theory of extra flotation vs float pulled back vs float on the hook.
conditions was calm NW and small swell, end result was that the float pulled back was a clear winner for the day... and every other day thereafter.

the floats on the hook also works when the conditions are as follows:

big shoals feeding and the fish take without looking at the state of the bait.
in rough water where there is sufficient bouncing of the bait and i use this method particularly off the surf.

i use two setups.

the hooks vary between 4-7/0 from coast to coast with false bay warmer waters taking the larger hooks. in cooler water i might go down to 2/0.

A-in calm water where a bit of movement needs to be induced

B- where enough action exists in the water.

hope this helps;)
