It's more psychological than anything else. Some people get sea sick before they even get on the boat because they were so buzy preparing themselves to get sea sick that they are already sick. Forget there are even something like it and enjoy the outing instead.
Hey Fanie...

On my last trip out at Gouritz before I discovered stuggeron I was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz..."There is no such thing as sea sickness...There is no thing as....ralph...ralph...sea-...ralph...".

The crew even dubbed my Ralph1; Ralph2 and Ralph3.

When we hit shore the guys asked what bait we used. I casually replied: "Cream soda".

My 19 year old daughter started becoming sea-sick after 4 years of going to sea? Anyway we tried sturgeron and all she wanted to do was sleep! so we went to the chemist and he said try good old VALOID. 2 the night before and 2 before launching. well it worked a charm! And no tiredeness either.

Boet, she is a star! she is my 2 IC on the boat- packs the boat, reverses the trailer, holds boat into waves when launching etc etc.

HI THE GINGER CAPSULES REALLY DO WORK. I TRIED EVERYTHING AND MEDICATION HELPED BUT MAKES YOU SLOWED UP AND MADE YOU TIRED.
THE GINGER WORKED WONDERS AND WAS NOT TIRED AFTERWARDS.
I HAVE NOT LOOKED BACK

I have never had the unfortunate pleasure of being seasick, my missus however does get sick often. She also started with the ginger ( Ginger capsules, ginger beer) and it seems to have helped a little.

When you start feeling that watery feeling in your mouth, never look down, keep your eyes on the horizon ( Something stable ) or if you are not out to far on the shoreline. After a while the feeling will hopefully subside

I never used to get queasy, but the last few years I've started, so I take stugeron and a valoid the night before and in the morning no problems with that.
My youngets son is sort of ok when we troll, but the moment we stop he chums, some years ago we took a charter out of St Lucia and I gave him some 'seasick tablets' the night before and some in the morning, it was no good he chummed all day. When we got ashore I found that I had given him Colchicine tablets which I carry in case of gout, both pill containers were the same size and both pills were small white ones, he's never let me forget that, mind he never got gout either so there is a bit of a positive spin to it all.
We went out of Richards bay in October and even the Sturogen and Valoid didn't stop him chumming, once we were back in the harbour or if we are out on say Jozini and the wind is pumping he's fine, I think it's something to do with looking at the horizon and seeing no land that gets him going.
It's not a pleasant thing to suffer from but with me the tablets work, I will try ginger capsules with him next time we go out

I had struggled with this problem for a while. I found 1 Stugeron tablets(not the cheaper generic) the night before and the morning of the trip seemed to help  most times. I found that taking the prescription drug Epanutin the night before and morning before the trip along with the Stugeron tablet seems to sort the problem out. Epanutin is only available on prescription but is used by astronauts to overcome the problem. It also helps to drink lots of non alcoholic liquids to stay hydrated, avoid sitting near petrol and diesel fume sources and eating fatty foods

It seems that I’m not the only one that suffers from the green fever. Before my injury I could stay on a rubber duck for about 4 – 6 hours, in calm water. Then I had a head injury on the Oil Rigs in 2005. Since then I went out once with a friend of mine to the 5 mile bank in Struisbaai. I came prepared. I had 3 brands of see sickness tablets, raw gingers in my pocket, ginger beer to wash it down, stickers behind my ears, you name it I had it. So I thought I was prepared for this fever.

I didn’t want to go out @ all, but this friend of mine had no crew and he only comes to SA every few months on leave from Irac. So I took one for the team. Got to the fishing spot and with in mins I was green. I washed the deck a few times and with in an hour we were back in Struisbaai.

The thing is I stay sick for day after. Every time I want to stand up to go some where I get sick. I asked my Dr. (besides that my left ear was fractured in the injury) he said that the signal from my eyes to my brain gets lots and for this reason I will always get seasick. :?

But now when I go out with my fishing kayak I can stay on the water for hours.

In rough seas, working with chum, looking close / nearby, it doesn’t matter.

What I’ve realized is that I’m one with the water. If the water moves, I move. There is no relay between my brain / ears / eyes and the water.

So with out any meds or remedies I can go out and still fish. All I can say is, if you get sick, get as low down on the deck as possible, or get in the water until your better. Just watch for the TANNE MANNE.:ssswim:

Normally im fine when going out to fish no problem but after scuba diving and getting back on the duck always started feeling quesy and not all that good

My advice eat marie biscuits it helps calm your stomach down kind of like they swell in your stomach and create a seal

Something else i believe in and it works for me but might not work for someone else i look straight at my feet and just concentrateon the fact that they are standingperfectly motionless on the deck and cant see any movement

Also eat something before getting on the boat dont go with an empty stomach just my 2cents hope it helps ::hippy1:

I also get sick in about 2 hrs of being on the sea, even after drinking ginger pills valoid all that. What I really noticed helps is closing my eyes and pretending i'm trying to fall asleep. Soothes the sickness right outta me!
