Single hooks for Onda's

Hi guys.

Just got a few Onda's in different sizes and colours for the shad season. The trebles on the Onda's are good and have never let me down before. But after reading many threads I have decided to replace them with singles. My question is this- what would be the best hooks to use and concidering that I will be fishing for shad, what size? I was thinking along the lines of 2/0 stainless steel. Suggestions?

Thanks

Dude, why don't you go for the Mustads big guns. They quality hooks and last you longer than the stainless steel ones and also, if you hook up with a lekka fish other than a shad you know you protected.Little bit expensive but worth the money.

My choice would be Gamaktzu Soi Ring Eye in 4/O or 5/O. They are off set hooks so I straighten them up with Pliers so they don't effect the action. Another thing is you will have to use a split ring otherwise your single will sit to the side ( not good). The other option is to bend open the eye of the hook and then bend it straight back on to the onde onde.

Thanks guys.

@remlin. Isn't the Big Gun to "heavy"? Will this affect the action of the Onda? On the other hand you do have a valid point, I would hate to loose a bus through a bent hook.

@ignoblis. I have already got split rings- but thanks for the reminder. Would bending the hook not create a weak point? Gamaktzu hooks are very good, but I have not seen the Soi Ring Eye yet. Being from KZN yourself, where would I be able to get them?

Basil Manning for Soi Ring Eye - Barry Wareham swears by them.

I must say the Mustad hooks bend OK but I would use the split ring with the Gamakatzus.

remember the hook must also face upwards to avoid get snagged in the rocks

I use silver kendalls. Strong enough for light tackle but soft enough to bend open so as not to necessitate the use of split rings
