Hi Ouens

Planning on going on holiday to Moz with my girlfriend, just to chill but of course I am going to sneak a gun  and mask into the car, where can we go that is good to lay in the sun and tan (for her) and just relax and me getting a good chance at bagging a good fish from a shoredive near a nice resort?

Please any advice:wfish

There's quite a few places I can suggest you, some I have not dived but can recomend to you. Keep in mind you will be diving on your own most of the time.

Check the following and get back to me:

1. How far you want to go up along the coast?
2. Limited budget?
3. Resort? Lodge? - budget?
4. Experience?
5. Type fish you want to target?
6. When and for how long?

Hi Serra Moz

I have a feeling you are going to sort me out on this topic.

1) I dont want to go up to far north, because that will shorten my holiday and I dont have a Land Cruiser so the the roads need to be fit for a 4x2 car

2) Yes limited budget , I can't even afford to pay attention ! lol

3) I would prefer camping or cheap lodging, but a place with restaurant on the premises or close by and shops close by

4) I never dived in Mozam before, although I did fish Santa Maria before, but I dive 6 meters comfortably( I hear they say you might dive deeper in Moz because of water temp and viz) , I only recently started spearfishing my breathhold is fine!

5) Type of fish- Anything But I would like to shoot reef fish as well, malabar or maybe coral trout and any game fish

6) July , duration 1 week

Thank You very much Serra Moz

Ok, you have a few options:

1. You can do Ponta, then again it's like being in South Africa

2. You can go stay on Inhaca/St Maria - accom will not be cheap and you will have to venture far to diving spots. However If you team up with the local spearos (True Legends) you will enjoy it and definately get fish - Good for the lady too, although no shops as in shopping besides the small village. I would suggest Manico camp (See Facebook) I can give you the contact details too. I do know the owner very well, and he will assist you too.

3. About 290kms from Maputo you will find Chidenguele - lots of reefs, gulleys, pools and open water reefs. Good spearfishing. Keep in mind a spearo died there a few years ago (I do not want to go into details on SL) Anyway I would suggest Pariaso do Chidenguele. Again no shops, but good food at the resto, nice pool and safe area. From there you can drive to the village to buy whatever you need or on your way you can stop in Xai Xai to get your goodies.

Anything else let me know.

Hi Serra Moz

I dont have the exact dates yet, I looked at all the spots you suggested

Ponta is closest and the closer the better, but how far from the accommodation is the spearfishing spots? And how good is the spearfishing from a shoredive?

Manico Camp looks very nice but again how far is it from the spearing spots? And how is the spearfishing from a shoredive?

Santa Maria/Inhacha , is there 4X2 roads to them , Ive been there once and we drove through the elephant park and still remembered how ill tempered one bull elephant was towards our olive coloured land cruiser!!!!!

Where would you go, I dont want to go too far north

I haven't been to Ponta for ages, almost a decade or more. I think they have restrictions on spearos????? As it's a prime scuba location, again I might be wrong, it would best email one of the camps/lodges there as to clarify the issue. Also regarding 2x4 vehicle I am not sure if you will reach Ponta, you might have to leave your vehicle at the border post and get a ride with lodge you intend staying with, again should you decide on a lodge, clear it up with them.

I think there's another Spearo website, just do a google, it might be possible to get all your answers on there.

Cheers
