I'l be going on a shopping spree for new Reel and Rod. I need some advise.

 

I currently have a old Penn 500 and Elbe rod set-up and can max cast at 110m. What combo would suit getting greater casting distances.

Looking a a budget of R5 - 6k

 

Any advise will be appreciated.

Flip, thats a nice budget bru! You can get state of the art stuff with that amount of ammo....

My choices would be... rod: 1. Bazooka, 2. WAFT 3. Exage HMG 1448
Reel: 1. Saltiga 50,   2.Trinidad 30   3. Torium 30/Saltist 50

Sheez have fun....!

Nice budget!

For allround salt water fishing......

Assassin Medium HMG, with optional 8 inch extension section and a Torium 30!

Should cast way more than 110m with this!

definately torium reel best quality for price shouldnt pay more than R1100 for reel and rods are personal pref.
For general fishing I would recomend a 3piece

Are you after multi piece rods or will one piece do?

If you don't mind going the one piece route, the following would be my recommendation:

Non-eds:
  • Waft Highlander Shark 14ft HMG- R1550[/*]
  • Shimano Torium 30 / Daiwa Saltist 50H - R1500[/*]
Edibles:
  • Waft Highlander Shad 12ft HMG - R1300[/*]
  • Shimano Torium 20 / Daiwa Saltist 40H - R1400[/*]
That will get you two outfits for your budget.

Else, if you're keen on multipiece setups, then the following would be my suggestion:
  • Waft Iron Feather (Big Brother) Mussel Cracker/Shark HMG - R3300[/*]
  • Shimano Torium 30 / Daiwa Saltist 50H - R1500[/*]
The Waft Iron Feather will easily cater for both eds and non-eds and with the money left over you can spool your reel with 600m braid and still have money left for tackle. :D

I'll look at it - it seems that everyone thinks that the Torium 30 is a better option than Saltist 50? (my feeling as well)

Bought a torium 30 and Exage 1448 yesterday for R2060 and got a reelcover and 600m Giant High abrasion chucked in for nada.
