Hi guys,

I'm looking for comfortable shoes for fishing mostly from beach but must also work for rocks. Need shoes for upcoming Angola trip.

Thanks

Most guys that fish a lot of rock and surf will use cut/short gumboots with neoprene socks so I wouldn't go without it (you can put inners in them to make it more comfortable). But for comfort (beach) a pair of those rockies or Crocs will work.
Only problem with open shoes are the risk of cuts or urchin spikes, and you really want to make sure that doesn't happen on a remote fishing trip.

another risk that is ever present is stepping on a barbel as people don't release them back into the water and reather leave them lying on the beaches.

I Agree with this, and am the same myself, the cut short gumboots, with neoprene socks and an inner from one of my old running shoes. its comfortable for me to walk in for long distances.

I use the ones in the link. I have never had issues with urchin spines or things sticking through.

I see on the website that they have changed the design of the sole, so I can't say how the new one grips, but I know the old soles had the best grip of any shoes I had ever worn on slippery rocks.

as long as you don't buy these expensive ones.

Got it last year, went out on the rocks between 5-10 times, and they are "smiling"

The glue they use feels like wet card bord paper between the sole and body. Maybe they did ran out of glue and use the box the glue was packed in.

I have been using these for the past 4 years and they are still going strong. Yes, a stone every now and then in the shoe, especially from the surf. The toe protection is great and the quality is excellent. Walks very nicely on rocks and surf. Does not break the bank.

The problem for the older guys, is those bad ankles, especially when you forget that you are almost 60 and those ankles is not that strong anymore

Damm, a twisted ankle and "cut shin" is not nice. It takes ages to recover and mend again ;)

Not there yet, but coming closer to 60 fast. I have just found that either the above shoe or then a booty sock and oversized gumboot is ok. However, the gumboot slips on most surfaces and is more risky than a shoe that grips well on the rocks.
At our age most important is to look where you are walking and NOT to let 'viskoors' take over. Harder done than said.
