Shocking Sight at Renosterkop

Hi all, on my very first introduction to Artlure fishing with a friend of mine splach76 yesterday. We found a few illegal fishing nets. I have never seen so many illegal fish nets. we took out one net with about 60 adult Kupers in various species. Also baber, bass and carp. Some were dead others half eaten, we even got Kuper females with eggs or baby fishes in their mouths. About 85% of all the fish we did recover.

How many nets are there? Will it be the same as to the Rhino’s? Some of the fishes are also endangered!

sad to see it still continues, makes me wonder where do they get the nets from? if we can stop the supplier it would make a huge dent in their operations?

morning, I think the Mozambicans thought them how to make it. I and most probably the Chinese are behind it.

Ja Alcedo, unfortunately that is commonplace in Renosterkop... best you can do is burn the nets, otherwise try cut them up and sink them. Generally, cutting the top rope makes the net unusable

SAPS Waterwing are trying there best, but can't be at every dam all the time.
The fact that it is a handmade gillnet indicates that the netters is under pressure, because when business is blooming they usually buy new nets.

I don't think sinking them is such a good idea, if it is monofilament nets it would be the same as throwing plastic rubbish in the water.
