hi, in my tld 20/40, i got 3 bearings, standard is 2, the drive shaft bearing and the pinion bearing on the spool shaft, i swapped my bushing in the left side plate for a bearing, and if u can find a bearing(im still looking for one that fits) that fits in to the spool tension knob, u can then add a fourth bearing to the reel.

Then basically same bearing count and placement as speedmaster?

yep, standard speed master and tld 20/40 have the same bearing count , and they are placed at the same postions, only difference is speedmaster has higher gear ratio.

no problem, here's some rebuild threads from "ancient sealine" on the speedmaster and 15/30 (20/40 is the exact same just bigger spool, but im sure u knew already).

Is it a worthy option to upgrade the standard speedmaster drag with carbontex?

yes if your current washers are shot it certainly is the best option to replace with carbontex

In terms of rod / reel balance, will the speedmaster be a fit for a 11ft Rod (Shimano Exage AX Surf Heavy) or Technium Medium Rod?
