sharing secrets

hey guys.
after having a great week I am feeling all warm and fuzzy inside and thought id share some advise. this is by no means any trade secrets or anything like that, but after our recent mozambique trip I just realised how few people are aware of the best way to "krap" a fish. something that always goes along with me when I go clean fish is a normal ordinary table spoon. this is magical for removing scales and does not make your fishing knife stomp. for those of you that know it I an sure u will agree its the best and for those of you that dont... give it a try... I dare you!
tight lines guys!

Thanks for sharing, I have seen the locals (Moz)use sea shells for "krapping" fish as well, like the clam shell you find in Maputo

sounds good serra, it will work on the same principle. the spoon and the clam shell is very rigid and wont give way like a knife. i will definitely remember the clam shell as well. thx

tx.. also important to keep fish out of sun so that scales don't go hard and difficult to remove

if i don't clean fish at the beach when at home i fill kitchen sink with water and remove scales under water so that scales don't fly all over the place and easy to gather and remove.

I recently discovered that a normal kitchen fork also works very well for scaling fish.
Especially well for the tougher rock species.

they do deon. I use to use a fork for scaling fish before I discovered the spoon. I actually started using the side of the fork imstead of the forks tip which then led to me trying a spoon and never looked back since. the trick is not to scale from the tail straight to the head but rather from the back to the bottom in the heads direction.

The best knife for descalling fish in my opinion is any that is serrated like this

Heres another trick for scaling fish. Make sure the fish is completely submerged under water in a basin .. in this way the scales dont fly all over the place. Try it.
