DALLKILL, NORMAL MAINTENANCE JUST DO WHAT WEEDS TOLD YOU, IF U FEEL YOUR REEL IS GETTING A BIT RAGGED TAKE TO KEITH IN BOTHASIG.  HE WILL SORT ANY REEL. AS LONG AS YOU DONT BRING HIM AN ABU. HE WILL TOSS IT AND SELL YOU ONE OF HIS 20/40 SPECIALS.

Once you've taken everything apart... dump it into a plastic container with Benzene (really cheap stuff) leave it for an hour and you'll be absolutely amazed at how clean your parts are. I dump the bearings, drag washers in as well, but the felt or leather ones, I just soak for about 10 minutes.

Take them out, place them on some Carlton roll so that they dry out well, then start regreasing... I grease my drag washers as well with a very light coat of Teflon grease.
Bearings get done with Mobil one/ Prolong/Drug addict method::H... put all together again Vooopah, at least a 2minute freespool spin!

If your reel gets used a lot, I was freaked out as to how SIFF the grease inside the reel gets if mixed with water.... Never again!

Has anyone tried the ceramic bearing replacements you can get overseas?

They supposed to be so good........but thats per their web site (the guys that make rocket fuel).

MJ I use them in my handpieces (the drills that a Dentist uses) - they last MUCH longer than the metal ones, but are probably more than double the price.
