Hi Pieter

I have an 8ft Sensation Passion Stick which for its price is probably one of the best rods I've used.  The Sensation has very good guides for braided line and casts a mile with spoons of 1-1.5oz.

The Scimitar is also not to bad from what I've heard. It's cheaper than the others and from what I've seen at the shops not something I would buy for myself.

I do not know enough about the excelor to give comment. From what the guys on Sealine say, I reckon that you cannot go wrong with most of the Daiwa range.

Happy shopping

To be honest, I havent seen the power stick in the shops around Cpt. Only in a magazine. Sensation's quality overall is good from what I've seen though.

Hi PieterH

I have a shim scimitar and have caught a lot off bass and shad and a 5kg sandie on it I put a lot off trust in that little rod and it has rewarded me well. Also there are light /med and Heavy in the scimitar range mine is a Heavy 7ft.

I can not comment on the others as I have not used them.

I have the Sensation and I have not had any trouble. It has nice power, casts comfortabily and in my opinion is a good buy for its price.

Hi,

I have a Scimitar and I absolutely love it. It was my second Bass rod I ever bought.

I have caught Shad, thousands of Largemouth Bass and a 6.5kg Barble on it. It is more than two years old, and there is nothing wrong with it.

That said, I want a passion stick too. I have a Sensation 2/3 weight fly rod and although I haven't fished with it yet, it just feels like the bomb.

I doubt you will regret buying either.

as far as the reel is concerned, I can'thelp you, I only have Shimano reels, and they do the job plenty fine and then some.

@ Loams:  I just bought a 7ft Shimano Scimitar for some bass fishing and also some light tackle sand and surf fishing.

Any advice on what reels I should get for a nice balanced set up?

Thanks in advance.:fishn

@ nightfox NICE FISH DUDE !

i have a few Schimtars , rock solid sticks ! i have even taken some small yellowtail on them , loads of Elf , Loads of Grunter.my Dad , landed a 20kg plus Kob in Gourits .

I really think you will have to search far and wide to get the same stick for the price they are going for !

Yup, I love Shimano as well. I would suggest a 1000 size reel or smaller for Bass fishing, and a 2500 for drop shot. Slades are nice reels and I like them. Sedona are pretty darn good too

I also have a Scimitar, the rod has given me countless hours of fun, have caught, bass, carp, mullet, leeries, hotties, and dassies with it.

Pieter.

They are all good rods, but comparing them would be a bit unfair as their prices and graphite qualities differ quite a lot.
It boils down to your budget and what sort of feel you want.
It also depends on what you are fishing for and how you fish.

In comparison , all in 7ft length

Scimitar +- R300 equivalent to IM4 graphite (not stated)
Exceler +- R700 IM6 graphite
Passionstick +- R 500 equivalent IM8 graphite (46T HMG)

Generally speaking the higher the graphite rating the thinner, lighter and more responsive the rod, but the down side is the rod becomes more brittle.

I'd go with the Scimitar, and as you have read, there many happy customers who own them.

i was lucky to scoop up at the sportsmans warehouse sale a Daiwa triforce 661mhrb graphite bass rod for only R129.00.

have landed 6.0kg plus cob with ease.

Thanks toe! I think the thing that stands out with the scimitar for me, regardless of price, is that the rod has a fantastic action and feel. One shouldn't always look at brands and price, it just has to have that "right feel" to it, and with the scimitar the price is a bonus.
