Why dont we start our own VHF channel nr so that we can chat and swap info. Plenty of the charter guys do it and commercials.

What do you think ?

ICASA will have to approce such a frequency, but I can tell you now they are going to tell you to use the open frequencies.

Why don't you guys just get your radio amateur licenses ? It's very learnfull and you can talk all you like after that, VHF as well as HF.

I can really recommend you guys to do it.

I don't think its a case of wanting a specific frequency thats being referred to here but simply a case of everyone knowing which channel to switch to for a quick chat. Call it a poor mans Kavicom if you will.

Only VHF channels for recreational (fishing and yachts) use are 71 and 69, there are no spare channels.

what about 68? Is that open? Nice and close to 69 and 71?

If we find an open channel, would it go something like this:
Sealiners, sealiners, sealiners come in for X.

R6000 some odd and a monthly fee of R500 odd ? - can this be true ?
yeah, I know there is a monthly fee that needs to be paid, heard it was a couple of hundred bucks! Its all fine having a Kavicom, but you going to need to know other Kavicom owners that you can call!

99% of my fishing info comes via the cell and it sounds much cheaper than a kavicom, but it won't work for the tuna guys.

Shyt Paul - do you have to talk very slow and in so much detail before Alan understands or whats the story Alan.

I must not be nasty to Alan he caught 3 of the 5 tail that him and I caught on Sunday. Where I caught the fish on Sunday there is no or very poor cellphone reception. I normally tell my fishing mates where I will be going to look the day before we go. Then if I am catching I call them on the radio and say, come to the place that I told you I would be. On Sunday I called a mate up on the radio and told him we were catching and we somehow got it wrong he went to Oliphantsbos and I was at Rocky Bank. No, I promise you it was not on purpose. Cheers Paul

3 to 2, if I chech my records thats just about the normal catch ratio Paul.

And don't forget I had to phone your mate to tell him you sent him the wrong way cos your phone had no signal, so I'll just add the cost of that call to the Bakers fishing advice invoice.
