Sea Kayak does it look ok?

I am about to purchase a kayak, please see attached do you think this is ok? Does it look like something good?

Does anybody know if you can take a guide your first time out and where to go thats safe...Ballito area

Where do you want to take these Kayaks?
I don't really see any decent fish hatches and no rudder system.
What is their length, a paddle powered craft need to be minimum 4m long to be able to go out in the ocean.
So I don't think they are good for the ocean.

For freshwater I'm sure they are fine and seeing you are from Jo'burg I assume you want it for freshwater fishing.

Hey i would like to use it for both, mainly freshwater fishing. But we do alot of fishing in st lucia/vidal and ballito.

I have never gone out in the sea on a kayak, but these are fantastic deals. I am just worried about purchasing something that is not going to work in the sea.

I just want to purchase a safe craft that is not going to break the bank. These are selling for R2000 each.

Don't know if there are scuppers in the seating area, it don't seem so. the seatting area is very deep and large and when this fills with saltwater (and it will) you are going to paddle heavy with that much water aboard. just my 2c worth.

Hi Antz, i guess its going to depend on the kind of sea fishing you're planning on and how often, and what shortcomings you're prepared to live with for the sake of a good deal. My concerns are: seating well is big and is going to hold alot of heavy water, no where to store your catch and no where to stow rods when launching and landing, you wont have access to any hatches except the one behind you when at sea because they are below the waterline of the cockpit area if you know what i mean; lastly lack of rudder. regards F

If for dam fishing, they would be ok.
Look like they would be pretty stable.
However, if you intend to cover a lot of water, that lack of rudder is going to be a problem.

The lack of rudder would be a problem if launching in the sea as well. Beaching , with no rudder, is going to be "fun".
Do you intend buying both or only 1 of them?

As you have stated, you will be doing both freshwater and saltwater fishing so I'd say rather have a look out for someone selling a secondhand Stealth or Erics, or something to that effect. At least this way once you intend launching at Ballito or St Lucia, you'll be kitted out properly.

At the end of the day, it's your decision and good luck with your purchase.

Antz...... You can pick up a decent second hand ski that is a lot more capable and purpose built for anything from 2k if you're patient. Those are not right for the sea...

Antz - get a beeg (5m x 1m) decent kayak for the sea ! It has to be equipped like mermaid Danie Burger said, otherwise it's going to be very uncomfy out there.

Thanks for your help, i have decided not to take it. I think its better if i spend a little more and get something that will work for me.

Hopefully i will be on the water soon, i am really excited to get out there chartering a boat is costing a fortune.

You do need a rudder system if you want to go to sea.

Check the ski on the right. Are those rear rod holders pointing inward. Ha? How does that work.

Those skis will be great for live bait fishing. Once filled with water, you can keep you livies swimming around your ass while drifting for couta. Might have to exclude shad from the mix though hehe.
