We used to fish a small breakwater right in front of the portnet tower, probably same place u are referring to, lots of small hotties and a few bigger ones, gurnards, sharks and the odd stockfish. Off the main breakwater was a lot of small stockfish and sharks etc, as well as the odd kob in a NW wind. But then some moron went out there in a huge sea and got himself washed off and since then, no fishing...

Hey there Capt. H.

Ya i think its the same place that i am thinking of. Definatly good fishing was done at the main breakwater, and i can remember catching stockfish at night with a strong torch shinning into the water to attract them!:fswimI never knew the reason as to why the main breakwater was closed to the public until now. However i think that i will try catching a few gurnards from that port building site soon!!:wfish:fishn Thanks a million Capt. for that bit of info:welcomesea:

never caught stump there but big hotties. You should chum and fish drift baits on light tackle, sardine or mussel best. Those big hotties pull on light tackle!

Hi captain H. Yes i often wondered how it must be to fish those back reefs and wot is actually caught out there. Is there easy walks towards the reefs or does a person get fully submerged and swim thru gullies etc?:sha

depends on the tides and timing of your session...generally though the fishing is better on a pushing tide so you do need to do a bit of proper wading to get back in. wetsuit and rock boots the answer, and all your gear on your person in very light and organized fashion!
