holy mackeral. I don.t even wanna see this reel. I already enjoy my Hk, this would simply fuel my pending entrance into single-life solidly . binding issues- mari' i think he's referring to the feeling one gets from a lever drag reel in that the drag never really disengages completely ,i found this on a huge penn reel, though i could be wrong. I like the whole lever drag very much, but is really more of a luxury than anything else man. Roland i was hoping you weren't joking. They should make it 9k man , so normal salary-earners like us get used to the idea that eating really IS more important than having a lever-drag in the cupboard . . . :)

The yanks say all their reels (ie TLD) is made for casting. By casting they usually mean PITCHING baits to game fish like finning marlin and sails etc. Very few people cast like us crazy saffas. I would say its done in comparisson tot he torsa, but torsa has advantage of being able to change the drag hubs to suit different line classes, but still keep free spool. never tried to cast a 8oz sinker with a torsa though.

i would tend to agree with tkei  in that  the yanks do Not use these Reels for casting .  i would stick my neck out and use trini 50 as a good example . i Battle my lungs out to cast it as it is not the easiest reel to get spooled up . hence , not a reel designed for casting , but I'm no expert .

I don't believe the saltiga Was designed for casting either .  Lever Drag reels are , by definition , meant for Trolling use and small gamefish . it is a modd of convenience, and one i am hoping will be able to be utilized in the swith over to land use , for us saffa Crazy's .

Still , it is going to come with a Samoose price tag , and one that i am simply not willing to Pay ....

Crikey man- I can't Even HOOK em on the CURRENT 'tiga , so a no-nonsense 'tiga such as This One is not going to be Of Much  or any use to me !!Lolol !!

Daiwa doing it first??? - Yaaa, right? May be they will claim the twin drag concept, too.

Upfront, the reels from accurate are only boat reels, not a surf casting reels.::pop:::pop:::pop:::pop::whisp

The TwinDrag History

Before introduction of our patented TwinDragâ„¢ system, traditional fishing reel design applied drag to only one side of the reel spool. As a parallel, imagine trying to stop your car while braking was applied only to the wheels on one side. Besides veering you into a skid, such a one-sided system would create a large imbalance on moving parts, create erratic pressures and prematurely wear out brake materials. Unfortunately, the

Now imagine the increased efficiency of equal pressure applied to both sides of the spool: the bearings and spool shaft receive a more balanced load, translating into stronger, smoother drags, while the dual-drag design also doubles heat dissipation. TwinDrag design also requires less pressure to be applied to each side of the spool, while allowing precise drag settings with extremely little drag fluctuation.

Here's a simple comparison: Take a standard lever-operated, single-drag reel and a high-tech TwinDragâ„¢ (ATD) reel, set both to the same drag pressure, for example 20 pounds. While both reels will apply the same 20 pounds of drag to a running fish, the ATD reel will accomplish this by applying only half the amount of side pressure to each side of the spool. The single-drag reel, however, applies all of its drag tension to a single side of the reel spool, promoting heat buildup and uneven, jerky drag performance. And here's another Accurate advantage: the precision-adjusted drag of our ATD reels will fluctuate less than 1-pound in total drag range when line is drawn -- at any speed -- from the spool. Said another way, when the drag is set to 20 pounds on a ATD reel, drag pressure will only vary between 19.5 and 20.5 pounds, or less! Test that precision uniformity against other reels and you'll see the difference.

Our new Platinum TwinDragâ„¢ reels are also designed with a preset lever (the Boss ATDs have a preset knob) which allows for a precise setting of the drag range. Used in conjunction with the preset lever is a handy, graduated, alphabetical "letter" scale which takes the guesswork out of setting the drag by serving as a definitive, visual reference guide during drag adjusment.

Our ATD reels also offer excellent, unhindered freespooling in every drag-setting range from less than 1-pound to total lock-down (that's more than 70 pounds of applied drag pressure). They're always ready to go fishing, right out of the box, with no additional "tuning" or "blueprinting" being necessary.

What all of this means to the fisherman is that our Platinum TwinDragâ„¢ and Boss TwinDragâ„¢ reels apply the smoothest, best balanced, most precisely set and maintained drag pressure possible, while not falling victim to heat buildup that can cost you fish.

Guys, this may be a dumb question coming from a beginner, so please bear with me...

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THESE ""BIG BOYS""??

I'm talking about the Saltiga & Trini....and no, this is not a debate between Daiwa and Shimano..

Most of the Sealine members are Rock & Surf anglers...Guys targeting edibles and non eds...

From most of the posts and gallery ive noticed monsters being caught in both categories ranging from a mere 5kg up to 180kg....and most of these beauties were caught using Saltists and Toriums and oh, and lets not forget the SL50's....

My point...Saltiga and Trini are overkill!!!!!!!! or am i just inexperienced!

No doubt you'll have to pay out your nought though....::jest
binding issues?????????:?:?:?:?
The spool doesn't always release from the drag mechanism meaning you don't have a true free spool.

But Nepptune might also be referring to the fact that with many of the older lever drag reels the tighter you made the drag the harder it became to turn the handle.

Lever drag is great, the disign is less complicated than a star drag and a better sense of what force your drag is set at. That said I still think a star drag reel will outcast a lever drag reel.

Hi Guys,

I just bought one from The kingfisher. Going price of R3995.00 - relatively cheap for a reel of this quality.

You will definitely straighten hooks with the drag set on max (or close to max). I set mine on about 7Kgs (of the 19Kgs available !!).

The reel casts extremely well. Can't wait to test it with a hook up. The seas are a bit high right now, but the first signs of a flat sea and I will try it out in the Transkei.

The spool took 600m of 50lb (.21) braid and 190m of 0.55 line with a 1.5mm taperred leader.

Unbelievable retrive rate of about 7.1:1.

my torium30 lin cap is the same. What casting distance do you get with it??

Kenny, all or nothing has the Saltist LD , and i Must be honest - It's about as smooth as a 30 A , which is really saying something . Then you still have the 2 -speed option which is just a neat Little bonus ..

Line Capacity is good , but the Overall feel of The Reel is Realllllllllly nice .

Sunil - 7.1 :1 ?? Suffering Cats ........

If you Hook somethign small and it's capable , you could have it waterski behind The grapnel on the way in ....

Shimano Talica and Talica II is a casting lever drag in the same class as the Tiga 40 (Talica 16) Tiga 50 (Talica 20) and Trini 50 (Talica 25II)

Hey,

I am quite happy with the line capacity, 800m (900m with .17 whiplash) is fine for me, if i can't turn a shark in that distance i also wont after 1000m ......

See you stay in the mosselbaai area, our aim is shark fishing in desember in that area, just off hartenbos main beach, grootbrak and places like that.

My concern still remains the casting distance, most of these spots have sand banks one has to clear, i am using a "Poseidon HMG Heavy" with a 9oz sinker. On my Torium30i get about 130m give or take 10m meter...

No one so far could give an casting distance with it, if i at least get the same distance off it i am happy.. or more, lol, hehe

Hi Enigma,

What washers does this reel come with? I thought it might already have carbontex washers in it for that price! lol

Did he buy the 2-Speed or Hyper Speed ?
