SAFTA Trade Show 2009

Just got back from setting up our stall. We're launching Hennies SeaGrand range of Jigging, Rods, Reels and some Rock and Surf Stuff this weekend (just had tot sneek it in)

Had a long chat with John Pledger (Chairman of SAFTA and Director at Rapala VMC (Shimano)) and apart from many new products, of which Sensation is probably going to take the lions share there are some big movements in the Tackle Trade Market.

There is a new owner for the agency dealing in all Berkley products with a whole new setup which looks like indent ordering is going to be stopped meaning their products as well as the other products under Eazi Gold will be more readily available and maybe our Whiplash prices will come in line with the international market.

JW Apex the current agents for PENN have some of their USA top brass here and they are looking to reposition themselves in the SA market and they are, from tomorrow the SA agents for Fin-Nor and Quantum and their prices have also taken a huge downward curve under the restructuring.

I'm looking forward to getting away from my own stall at times and will sneak pic's with the Cell and post new goodies on show (no prices only tech specs and looks)

Show is smaller than the past 2 years and I suppose that's just as a result of the economy but Sensations cubicle is absolutely awe inspiring, they are truly becoming a force to be reckoned with. The product range under display is probably larger than that of our other 2 major brand suppliers, combined.

Hi enigma,

Please get your story straight. If the Berkley agency changes hands the indent will still be in place, it is a prerequisite put there by Purefishing. And the new company has the bright idea that they are going to put the prices up by min 35%

Not good for anyone hey!!!

Hi guys well we'll wait with baited breath on the Purefishing agency now. As I understand (unconfirmed) the new agents have negotiated agency with Purefishing which are quite a few brands and it has been said that they have put down R10m for stocking of their warehouse. If this is actually the case then will indenting be necessary?

Obviously there will be a transition period from the one agency to the next. Neither were at the trade show to answer the many questions posed.

I take it that van the Fisherman is in the trade as well. If so then you'll know we were serviced from Australia for Berkley therefor some situations occurred wrt availability and pricing.

The fact is that the shakeup is going to be big. Pure fishing is now an international organisation that is becoming one of the top 5 fishing tackle groups and buying up everything of worth.

From what I understand the Penn agency will also move to the new Pure Fishing agents??????

Given the favourable exchange rates we currently experience in terms of exchange rates and the retailers currently charging R2.50/m for 50lbs Whiplash I bought and shipped 3 bulk spools of 50lbs Whiplash and landed them at an equivalent of R1.70/m all charges included.

Pure Fishing are the agents for the below mentioned brands:

As for the photo's. The show went so well that I didn't have a chance and then further out of respects for the others didn't bother to photo other peoples products.

Some of the better developments in products and new products to be launched are surely the Quantum products now on the Jarvis Walker Apex agency along with their newly acquisition of FinNor. The prices of the FinNor along with it's quality that Whaler will attest to is going to give a durable, powerful reel with an awesome drag, Surf Multiplier, Boatn Multiplier, Surf Spinning and Jigging aluminum bodies and the prices are extremely competitive.

Sensations new addition is the Eagle Claw hooks agency and having lunch with the staff we had opportunity to discuss the braid issue. We had inputs from the Relix factory rep and Marcello from GruppoD (Italian line Manufacturer).

I indicated that their striker braid is fine for recreational angler and that the dia to kg is good but with a breaking strain of 25kg (almost 55lbs) it's useless for the rock and surf anglers. I've givent him and the factory rep the requirements of a braid with a breaking strain of 50lbs and a knot degradation of 25% and a diameter of 0.26 to 0.30.

They'll be sending some samples for us to test in the future and maybe we can get a braid that can compete.

Andriesh I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you but the interest in our new ranges overawed me and there was just not enough time to get round to everyone.

We had to get a whole lot of new items out to Mozambique and Kenya for some guys of on jigging and popping adventures.

Thanks for the support and we'll make an effort to get out to Blue City
