Rus in orbi

Hey guys and girl,



I did a search and didn't find anything recent, so i thought i would start a new topic about the dam.



Anyway, how has the fishing been recently at Rus in orbi? Im planning day trip next Sunday. Any advice on baits and dips to use for carp and barbel? Has anyone caught anything there recently with da cold weather coming in?

Hi there.

Haven't fished those waters in more than a year and a half. But I've fished the water enough to have fair knowledge of it. Fishing can be tough there. IMHO the fish get fed too well because its a popular dam especially in summer.

Things that have worked well during early morning cold (winter) and/or windy conditions are red spirits, gumtree, cinnamon and a dip from Trucella called Witbaas. Put some FX into the mix as well.

Afternoon when it warms up and wind possibly dies down try pineapple, strawberry, FX, Vyfspoed (passion fruit) and musk.

I always start with plain white dough on my hooks and dip one of them in above mentioned plus some on the ball. If you pull some grass and green sludge or algy from the water on your retrieve put a plain float on the back of both hooks. Just lifts it out the muck enough for Mr fish to say yum! 

3rd last gazebo from the furthest end normally a good spot to produce. Be prepared that early morning from when gates open you may get 2 to 4 consecutive pick ups till about 8.30. Quiet for three hours to just before 12:00 and then start coming on the bite again till about 15:00. Till closing time you might get one or two more pickups. Don't count on too many busses picking up. Fished the water plenty. Average 1.5kg to 2.5kg. In all the years fishing caught one 3.5kg and one 4.7kg

Hi sealine,

Just some feedback from this weekends session at the Rus in Orbi.

I arrived at the dam about 09:00 and it was just about starting to warm up. I quickly setup as I noticed the fish are jumping about all around the dam. Quickly got my line in the water with the first rod about 40m out and the second rod about 70-80m out. The first rod had plain white floaties with sweet dough backing and the second rod had plain white floates with some Looti and Vicks on the bol. Just under and hour of my arrival, the second rod went screaming and I managed to land a nice 3.32kg carp. So I re-baited up and put my line back where it was. Not even 20 minutes later, the first rod went running and I pulled out a small carp.

It started getting a bit slow after that so I decides to change up the flavours but keep to distances as they were. I put a corn dipped in pineapple dip on the top hook and a plain floaty on the bottom of my sliding rietvlei trace with peach and bunspice bol dip. I managed to pull out 2 more carps of around 1.5kg and a small babel till around 13:00 on the plain white floaties. I had a pickup around 13:45 and was about to land the carp when the hook slipped out and I lost it, it looked like another carp around the 1.5-2kg mark.

About an hour before I left I managed to land 1 more carp of 1.84kg to seal the deal for the day.

I packed up around 16:00. I managed to meet up with bob fish as he was at the dam as well. We had a good chat and was good to meet a fellow sealine member at the water. Maybe Bob can add to this post about his day at Rus in orbi.

Yes, it is safe and wife friendly. There are some nice lapas to sit under and there are bathrooms but I am not sure of the condition of the bathrooms.
