Rpair on Multiplier frame

Hi Guys,

My father got a daiwa reel from someone that I would like to use for barbel but unfortunately the reel has a few "ditches" cut into the frame by line... Is it possible to fix it?

If so please could you kindly advise?

Cheers in advance!

Take the left side plate off and remove the spool then file the edge even and sand down.

The previous owner must have threaded the line off the reel incorrectly to get those cuts in the frame, it must have also trashed his lines.

Cheers guys for the valued reply!

I have no idea how in the world this person managed to get those grooves in there...

Sanding it down seems like an obvious solution.
My Q is:- what product to coat it with afterwards to repel saltwater/moisture?
Let's hope for some tried and tested replies

Looks like a composite spool.

You don't have to coat or treat the reel. Just rinse it after use.

My Saltist looked nasty from scratches in the soft coating so about 5 years ago I used paint stripper and stripped it to the cast aluminium frame. Been a raw alu frame for 5 years and shows no signs of corrosion and is much hardier than the original coating.

hi

do you have a pic of the saltist with the paint stripped of. Would be very interesting to see the result.

Think a couple of guys might go that way after a couple of years fishing especially when its that reel that produced all the fish.

Found it, stripped it down in 2008 and it still looks the same today.

Thinking of putting it through a ceramic tumbler to get a fine matt finish to it.
