Rod loading

I picked up the exage 1468 from aqua today. My dilema, i struggle to cast with it. Much different than the purglas.

I used a 6oz on the medium tip, rate 7oz, with a occie leg at 1st and then a mullet head.

Can a rod be under loaded?

when you say struggle what are you meaning..

are you not getting distance?
is the rod not reacting through the cast?
are you simply not comfortable with the setup?

Dont get any distance or action. And i , lol , aim straight in front of me but when i cast it goes way left haha. Very left

What purglass do you have? /2, /3, /4?What dia line are you using? Normally if i throw to much left it is when i try cast to hard - ie overload the rod! Try using a lighter sinker or a smaller bait! Do you cast left or right handed?

Remember its a new rod and you will get to know the feel, just practise!!

Like Aqua mentioned about the "punch" cast - what your cast style? Your avatar pic does not give me an accurate indication of your size. You a strong caster that pushes through the stick or you cast with the stick allowing it to basically "pendulum" your bait out.

If you not used to a stiffer stick it will come with more time.. The heavier sinker will help but ultimately you may have to change your casting style since you may have depended on the softer rods to do the "work" for you in the past.

Roland,

I'm very happy with my 1468 & Tor30, I think you can describe my cast as an overhead, left hand on the reel, right arm as straight as possible, I then start of from the ground in an arc, increasing power the whole time until I reach my release point.

I try to keep my right arm & rod in as straight as possible line to get a wide as possible arch.

Works for me and I'm happy with my distance (never bothered to measured).

Light Tip (6 oz) - 0.45mm line - 0.55 leader, 6 oz sinker + bait,

oh btw, I'm 1.75m tall as well, but unfortunately weight in at 105Kg!

edit: Also play around with your sinker drop until you comfortable.

Thanks. Used the light tip with 6oz sinker. Only casting. Did alot of casts. And i must say. Got the hang of it now. Measured 4 casts on the beach with my measure band and was quite surprised with the outcome lol. Nearest 90m , furthest 136m. If i can just average between 60 - 100m with a decent bait ill be happy

yes roland,

Doen die volgende...

vat jou medium en light tip en bere dit maar ver weg in a kas.  Jy gaan dit nie gebruik nie as jy wil distance kry nie.

Gebruik a 7oz met a jou heavy.  Gebruik net dit.  Raak gewoond daar aan.  Trust my sal nie lank wees nie en jy sal daai stok vinnig gewoond raak en daai sinkerkie pos!!!!

The Exage is comparable to the Purglas /5

I have to agree with Rayon putting away the Light and Med tips.

The rest of the rod is built with an action suited to the heavy tip so a light and medium tip only changes the way a fish bends the rod and then it looks awkward when a 1kg fish bends the tip 75 degrees but the rest of the rod is 100% straight.

Those distances you got are good and will be better with a 7 or 8oz (jus the weight) or 6-7oz depending on the size of your baits
