repairing osmosis

Hello all.
Im interested in purchasing a boat when I arrive back in Cape Town. I have had my eye on a boat that looks alright. I have been told it has what they call osmosis on the hull. If i get the boat at a steal and fix it up is repairing osmosis a big job on the hull and will it cost alot? If the boat only has a few spots on it does the hull need to be ground out and then fixed with glassfibre or is there a product one could use to fill them?

Im not sure how bad the boat is but ive been told it has quite abit of it. Has anyone removed these things before or is it a huge job? I will keep the boats identity anonymous.

Osmosis is something scary, and can also be cured with the right equipment/time and money!

Owner selling with knowledge of Osmosis....?? ((wideeye)):op(wideeye))((wideeye))

Be particularly wary ~ the owner knows the condition of the boat and has no doubt hesitated to correct the issue.

If the boat was your own, you probably would have investigated repairs to it.
Obviously the present owner has done so and was recommended to cut his losses and or sink the vessel.



Have a reputed outfit do a survey on the boat prior to committing to a sale. ~ include survey of motors, and electrical system and ensure all Radios,FFinders/GPS etc are functioning and 'not out of date' ~ roadworthy of trailer and condition of bearings/tyres (spare)?

Cost in your time and repair/materials/frustration etc...before you commit to the sale.

IMO....don't become another reef to be wrecked upon!

Hi Dan - there are lots of great secondhand boats on the market. I would rather look for one that is good to go than having to fix up someone else's problems.
