reel oil, grease, bearings and tools

howzit gv.. interesting question and by experience the red tg's rocket fuel sounds right for your question.. won't affect speed / distance but also add protection for lengthy service intervals..yellow as good

have left it on reel bearings for a while (sl30) with after a few sessions that span a few months (other go to reels) but still there as when i put the bearings on a piece of kitchen paper to add more oil it normally turns red with excess oil

also with the home experiment the castrol magnetic on mild steel bearing for more than 3 weeks in sea water saw only a little exterior rust not affecting bearings balls which will affect bearing movement and speed ultimately filtering down to reels performance obviously.. so another option

reelx is a medium thick viscosity like the red rocket fuel so not affecting bearing speed too much(try cuban for a bottle) .. your reels are magged so it will be a bit slower than normal so adding a thicker oil to me don't make a difference as even if you add a fast thin oil it won't affect free spool or distance really so might as well go thicker with the service intervals so far spaced.. guess you mean something like once a week fishing so after ten weeks you will open reel only?

howzit saffa.. used quantum grease and oil on my reels before and always there when i feel i need to check if oil is still sufficient enough on bearings.. not one rusty bearing yet.. grease goes on a thin film on gear box side cage and yoke springs which is the thinnest part of a reel and no issues..recommended

i run the l30 on boca abec 7 ceramics with the shield on and perhaps that helps keep of the oil in bearing.. another aspect to keep in mind as the l30 is a smooth, fast casting reel as you know

really doubt you will have any problem with quality bearing you using and a little bit of oil.. well not little as you will use reel for spinning so probably a good call to add a few extra drops that will be sufficient for a lengthy service interval like 10 weeks

not sure of corrosion block for bearing use.. have not tried it yet

other option is one posted by enigma,, the wurth product that was tested over a period of time in transkei

maybe I should just stick to the Oust for the 16A, which will cast lighter plugs, better suited, and try the Reelfast or Daiwa oil on the 20A and 35H, heavier plugs, and see what transpires!

Hi Guys, I'm back ....sure you getting tired of me by now,

Anyway, I'm revisiting this again, I have ordered the oust bearing oil, have read very good things about it, BUT, it has dawned on me in 2 aspects,

I am fishing trinidad a reels, problem is, access to spool bearings!!!!

Secondly, the oust oil is very thin, therefore more regular oiling, dont want to be opening the reel up and having to relube and clean reel parts all the time due to this process.

I fishing the ceramic hybrids, so generally a thinner oil is required.

So, Im looking at input or suggestions, on,

1. Do you think I could mix a grease and oil together and make a concoction, with a slightly thicker viscosity that wont impact too much on the bearings?

2. Are there any thicker oils out there that could be applied but could be good for at least 10 plus sessions?

My last question is, my local rip off store has Daiwa oil, is this  a thicker oil and what would you think about using this as a bearing oil for ceramics? Im all for new things and experimenting until I find whats the most useful for me....any thoughts?

and something else I thought about playing with, the corrosion block spray, not grease, how would that be as a bearing oil, it is a bit thicker?
Dunno if it's the same, but I tried the Daiwa oil, it turns black very quickly. I  used to use hair clipper oil  but then found  some synthetic penn oil which I use in spool bearings, no problems yet. For thicker oil I use the normal el cheapo thick synthetic oil you get in those clear plastic botteltjies at any angling shop
