structure scan on lowrance ?

i dont know but we just cant get this to work on the sea , maybe the durban water is less salty i dont know but according to me it just dont work , and i honestly feel that they should market it that way or atleast put on their ads that the pictures is from freshwater applications, becuase i feel the marketing it a bit misleading was rather disapointed with the result of this structure scan

Hi BUSH1,
It's great to at last find someone using Structure Scan at sea. Do you know any anglers in the Durbs area using structure scan sucessfully - and feel that it is worth the money?
By sheer coincidence, John, from FishTec just phoned me and claims that it is you, not the unit, who is at fault. He did not explain why.

He then refused to answer the questions I raised in the post and virtually hung up on me.

Blame the customer? I am starting to have my doubts about "Lowrance Service".

Please see my post above at 12:23 pm. I have asked these questions after a great deal of research downloading everything I can find from the Lowrance website and watching many YouTube videos on the HDS series - most of which is oriented toward fresh water bass fishing.

If anyone feels these questions are stupid or unreasonable please say so.

I have owned and operated boats for forty years from the old Furuno paper chart units to the latest Furuno sounders, chart plotters, and radar on my 100 ton commercial boat which cost big money. I have had several Lowrance sounders including a dual frequency X5-Pro on my small river boat, plus I spent most of my life in the computer industry some am not a technical retard.

I take exception to John's attitude and must express my disappointment in him as a Lowrance agent. I like and have never had a problem with their products but do find the info on thier top of the range HDS confusing. It seem the only way I might get answers is to refer the matter to Lowrance SA or USA.

( if i am at fault please help me ^^..^^..) why not adress it here ??

I will be very happy indeed if john can show us the ropes then on the structure scan , since this is a public forum i have raised a question and await a answer on this matter if no answer i accept that the units does not work as promised .

John knows a hel of a lot about fishfinders and especialy lowrance products , so i would like him to share his knowledge with the rest of the users of this forum regarding structure scan .

Hey John,
Let's get something straight here.
Most of us on this forum are here as anglers prepared to share our experience and knowledge and to learn from others. We do not use the forum to make money or promote our businesses.
You came into this thread to promote the products you sell, and as such, should have the knowledge to answer any technical questions raised about your products.
I think the questions I have raised are reasonable and should be informative to others trying to decide which marine electronics to buy.
You have failed to answer them. You phoned me yesterday, accused me of giving you "a hard time" on this forum, and hung up on me when I asked you to answer just one of my questions as posted over the phone.
You may be the only Lowrance agent on our forum - but not the only one in South Africa.

nou ja.

ok, something different.

it seems that the hds "side scan technology" is indeed needed for certain instances.

down at vidal, we found bait on the 83 khz, but not on the 200khz.
so where to now as we know that the bait is on the sides, but which side. the truth we dont know.

so after assisting me, thanks "John", it's clear

having side scan will pinpoint to which side the bait is.

but other then that, elite 5 combo is good.

al;
go visit fishtons website.
go read up on the articles posted.
then what isn't clear, ask some more questions.

Al,
If Fishton isn't telling you what you really want to hear, take a drive to your nearest lowrance dealer and go play with each unit in demo mode. Then decide for yourself and even better come back and let us know which rout you have gone and why.

Mr Easton is a well respected member of the forum with vast knowledge of electronics and although he does earn a living selling electronics, he gives so much of his time and knowledge back to us by providing the information he has here without asking for anything in return. This info is invaluable not just to us but everyone on the forum.

A little respect for the man please.

Now that that is out the way, I agree with John that you do not require anything too fancy for your rig. Elite 5 is enough or at bets HDS-5. Get a Rodman then we start talking Radar etc.

Hi guys,

i to seem to be in the dark with how to use my DSI to it's full potential but reading through various post it's clear that in order to get the best possible info you need to cough up.

i'm a sales rep and when consumers buy our products and have a problem using them we assist where we can with out handing out bank details. We also have a monthly get together where any one is welcome to join us and ask questions face to face and we give demonstration with out handing out bank details.
All of this cost time and effort yet we do it for free cause we know that in return the "students" will buy our product again in future, should it be directly from us or one of our distributors.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bad mouthing anyone here but aftersales service other than replacing damaged units free of charge would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know none of the GPS/Sounder suppliers have workshops or offer training of sorts. John Easton AKA Fishton does offer lessons for which he charges and he dishes out free tutorials here on Sealine. However, bear in mind he is not employed by Lowrance and his core business is training. Supplying units damn close to cost I might add is just another service he offers.

For general service, you can call Lowrance and they will help you over the phone as best they can. I've even had John Minnie at my house to help me with networking of my autopilot to my GPS and sounder.

Fair enough but a little guidance would be appreciated when buying a unit from someone like yourself or John. A little after sales service goes a long way.
