Congarts to Stephen , we were fishing next to him and he did well to land it!

I am still heart broken about the one that I lost earlier today!

Devan there's a reason why the S Cape guys use .65 when targetting them there Pylies

It can be done lighter but on a place like St Francis where vertical pressure and immense pressure is needed one needs to maximise chances by fishing as heavy as possible

Vasbyt, as Brett says you and Kops have put in enought time and effort so you'll soon get your rewards

what a looong day!!

tried yellowtail (4 hours, untouched), mackerel, chokka, big striped mullet all wrapped in bloody maasbankers and didnt get 1 solitary bite! Even after seeing the bronzies jumping out the water!!

At least there was a pylie landed::S interestingly both pylie hookups were on small mackerel baits. Any theories as to why they might have a preference for small baits on any given day?

here's DL feeling the pain.. and then my flattery's went bat

Well done to the youngster!!!

I miss that spot!!!

Would love to have seen the fight. These pylies can be stubborn, especially at a place like St Francis!!!

Hi guys, a short report on the day:

Stephen fought that pylie like a champ!!
He bullied it from the word go!!
The fish went right and he had to follow for quite a distance, but managed that with ease.

He ended up at the infamous shark platform and jut kept on pulling hard!!
Saw he had sea grand on and asked him during the fight how it is?HIs reply: I am confident i will land him!lol

HE worked it over the front ledge with saltiest 50 looked like posiodon 5 or something in that class. and .50 sea grand and 1mm leader.

He almost went off the rock twice in his excitement to leader the fish, but I caught him by the arms twice halfway down the rocks. hehe

I ended up having to gaff the fish as tackle was not up to leading , my first time ever gaffing a fish, hooked it in the wing and guided the fish to a shallow gully.

Well done STEPHEN!

DL went tight soon after on a small jackie throw bait.
Second time round he was better prepared and with stood the battle for close to an hour!!

Unfortunatly his leader connection broke after a trench fight with about the same size pylie! he was using for 30 and .50 big game and KATANA hooks!! and pergolas /6.

Guess he now knows how to not do a knot! BUt valuable experienced gained!

The only action my reels saw was a bird flying into the line!!

The guys saw about a 60kg bronze jump and a whale and some dolphins.

I definitely learnt my lesson to use even heavier tackle at St Francis!
Hopefully we will be able to have another chance to land one of these Magic Carpets before the summer is in full swing!

@ Aqua, I think the pylie's(or any other fish) sometimes prefer the smaller baits because their metabolism is slower in the winter and it takes longer to digest the bigger baits?
I was taught to fish with much smaller baits in the winter when doing freshwater fishing and the reasoning was that the fish metabolism was mush slower.

Here's a pic of the mackiehead throwbait that I got the pick up on, the bait looked so nice with the Katana hooks that I just had to take a pic of it! LOL
