Hi guys,
I will be installing this over the weekend. I am moving my 100AH battery to the front and refitting the original 45AH at the stbd side.

This is how it works:
Instead of using your motor's battery to power your electronics, you use and auxiliary batter. Another option was to fit a series of small 20AH batteries but I already have the 100AH so I'll use it. The unit allows each motor to charge its own battery, once they are fully charged, it diverts the charge to your auxiliary battery. It then isolates the auxiliary battery so that you cannot draw power from your motor batteries. Should the power on the motor battery drop below 11 V usually from starting the motor or standing it then switches over to charge the motor battery again until full.
The main advantage here is that you do not use you motor's power required for starting. Also you now have both motors charging the auxiliary battery so that one charges up in half the time!

The components are sealed in resin.

Bennie, do know if on charging the 3 battery's together in this configuration there is any impact on the alternators as they would be charging more than the normal 2 battery load?

Hi,
No there is no impact on the alternator. What it does is it isolates all 3 batteries so the alternator only charges it's own respective battery. Once that battery is full, the charge is normally dumped, but what the unit does is takes the charge that would normally be wasted and diverts it to the 3rd battery. No additional load one alternator.

Works well. I haven't had any power issues.
Another thing, when the battery runs down it doesn't draw power from the motor's batteries.

Found this in the old console I ripped out my boat ...

its some sort of a circuit in resin mounted to an aluminium heat sink ...

the trminals are labelled Auxillary Bat,  Alternator and Main Battery ....

Any ideas on its exact functioning?

I think it is the same as what the guys use when having a caravan with a battery. Same principal, but only 2 batteries in the circuit. So you would use the auxillery battery, but charged only by the STBD motor.
