I am truly amazed at this rods casting and pulling power.I have used the best and I am really impressed. My wife spoke to Raymond from ESA on facebook one day and I asked her to ask him how good is this rod and he said "brilliant".

I thought ya right,so I went to The Kingfisher purchased the rod, went straight to Beachwood Durban North with a 8oz sinker and casted for about 30 minutes.

Since then I have renewed my vows....

My Purglas 400/6 and this rod are my true fishing buddies.

I love them to bits!!!

I have one too luv it to bits but , can make you tired when used for casting big baits all day long ,does not have any problems , just i'm on the lean side so dont have the build to load the rod and throw all day long.... but i can tell you this it has amazing pulling power..... can make short work of big fish.

I have used a gremlins 400/7 before and prefer the Poseidon HMG Heavy..... I wonder how does the 6-8 ounce HMG Medium perfom been eyeing that one for a while now... i also heard some guys having troubles with the Poseidon HMG's what kind of troubles I ask?

sharky, the rods are built as light as possible, obviously as strong as viat build will allow. I asked ray about the range too, as ,here in the southern cape, finding info about gremlins rods is tough. Two rods in particular, the medium and the medium heavy, have yet to rest in my garage.i don't know about this platinum rod. Pics would be nice . Not seen it yet ? I know that some in the past were breaking them. Ray says they rate em by casting weights until the rod breaks. Then rate it an ounce down. Works for me. Makes sense. I am so keen to try a medium heavy. Would clear out some of the clutter in my garage. Sentimentality alone is keeping some of the rods in my garage. Were it not for that, both blue marlin and loomis would be hamba gahle. . . viper, where does this rod fit into the poseidon range?is it a new model, or something replacing the lower priced magnum x 5 or ? Apart from the prices on the poseidon's , i must say i've stroked more than just one or two of them at the local store. . . . - that's when he makes a finger error and orders them by accident. . . . Crikey! Rods are so expensive,so i guess it's not nice to keep things in stock that only tackle whores and holiday-makers with deep pockets seem to wanna buy, but i've made myself a promise not to do what viper did, and buy a rod blindly again. In my case ,the rod in question is always good, it just didn't fill my expectations to what my purchase requirements initially were. So instead of buying a rod to suit my need, i'm now changing my need to suit the rod. . . . . viper ,what did it set you back, and what is it's intended use bud? Large edibles ,or um, like a loomis do-it-all custom 2534-50T Job? I have a 6-8oz BM ,it's only problem being :perceived weight in the palm, and the mid section wouldn't give a millimeter to save julius's Life . Only the tip has action, and me being a pen-pusher, i need a rod with a bit of flex. But my next rod , eish, she'll be medium-heavy , mamma. . . .

Hi guys

My opinion are that these rods are amazing.

In-Eds - the Posiedon HMG Heavy does the job brilliantly, excellent pulling power and back bone.

Eds - The Posiedon HMG Mdm is a great rod.Very light so you can fish with it the whole day and also a very strong rod.

Spinning - The Ultra-light is in a league of its own. This rod is extremely light and has tremendous pulling power.Personally saw Ray catch a Kingie of about 10/11 kgs and he took it out with ease.

So all in all, i think they are an excellent choice of rods....

I have the meduim paired up with a Saltist 40 which I use for eds. Great rod and if needed to I know I will be able to pull the odd larger non edible with it if required.

I know that they had some issues with the Staffie that was breaking. Think the problem has been sorted.

The med/heavy is a great rod...real light so you can fish the whole day without getting tired. I throw a 8 ounce sinker with a torium 30 and this works real well.

Its a great rod for small to large edibles...still have to try it on the in edible side tho.

Def-e-nition,

I bought the rod for R3395.00 less 5% =R3225.25 at The Kingfisher. This rod is one under the Staffie (heavy medium),I didn't want a back breaker. It's light but I have NO FEAR when throwing this rod.

I mainly use this rod for sliding baits, the action when sliding is great.I find my bait goes down much quicker, smoother and the sinker hardly ever comes out.

It has all the party tricks such as trigger winch, flip guide, zirconium eyes ect...

I bought their last one on the shelf I don't know when they are making new stock.

I have landed some hammerheads on it and they were practically skipping on the surface..

The question I always get is " Do you not have enough and what are you going to do with this one "

I can nether have enough and if thier is something new and I want it and I can justify it I will buy it.

The Meduim Heavy is a great rod

Have the poseidon H and the poseidon XH, and they both cast a dream, pulled a 15kilo diamond on the H outfit with a saltist 50, not much of a fight, the fish was landed in no time, Great rods !!

I bought mine when the platinium came out for all of 1700 haha and havn got raggies of up to 133kgs on it which was landed in 25min BUT i think that while its nice and easy to cast it is not stiff enough which i found out when i was trying to pul a raggie of 90kgs into a guly in plett and when trying to pull it in the rod just kept on bending and i strugled to get enough power then i decided to buy a shark extreme medium because i wil never be able to cast the shark extreme heavy and have not looked back and while i often use my platinum i way prefer my shark extreme!

Non the less, its a good rod.

have to agree with Khan, i had the platinum when it came out, and have the new HMG 6-9OZ now, can't say much for handling big fish, but those rods cast very differently

Hi guys

Broke my platimun heavy HMG in half. Casting a 9 ounce sinker. Broke about 15 cm below the first farrel. Had it repaired by one of the more reputable guys here in cape town and gues what, first cast and it breaks in the same place. In over 20 years of fishing first rod i've ever broken. Twice.lol. Worst feeling ever. Wonderful rods. Casts like a dream. But handle with care! I think that goes for all HMG rods.

Just my experience.
