I need some help, been busy tying poper flies for various species, but I battle to get the square foam cylindrical for a good presentation.

Would appreciate some help!

You can buy the popper head already cut at most fishing shops

Hey Nyathi. I prefer the flexibility of making my own heads. If you dont come right buying pre made heads do the following: I use a dremel multi tool but you can use a normal hand drill too. Mount the drill in a stand or vice sideways with a long nail/thin drill bit in the chuck. Take your piece of square foam and push it on as centered as you can. Use a much bigger piece of foam than you need. Start the drill on slow speed and lock the trigger in place. Once the foam is spinning use a coarse piece of sand paper (60/40 gritt) and gently shape the foam to the rough required shape and size. Once the head is cylindrical you can increase the speed going finer with the sand paper (400 gritt) to get a smooth finish. The hole through the centre can be filled afterwards depending on how you mount the hook. What you've basically done above is just made a basic mini lathe. Im a woodworker so it was pretty easy to accomplish. If you need any more help with the details and setting up a mini lathe let me know
