I, personally, would never pay more than R200.00 for a pair of sunglasses that I use for fishing. The ones I've got , Rapala's, are very good and polaryzed.

I've seen too many people loosing their very expensive glasses in the waves. You have to wipe them off continuously and there's sand and stuff that can scratch. Simen had a pair that was "scratch resistant"  -  yeah right!! You should have seen them after a while - full of scratches, luckily they were on promotion and he was to wear them for free.

I rather buy a cheaper make and when they break, scratch or I loose them, I just go and buy another pair.

Well said madam!::rofl:

Another trick, you can get an optomotrist to get and fit new polaroid lenses and it does not cost the earth either.

The only problem with these "cheap" sunglasses is that they do not really give full UV A and UV B protection, and what happens then is your retinas open up letting in more and more of those harmful rays and you end up doing more damage to your eyes than not wearing sunglasses at all!! And on top of that you are getting all that extra glare from the water!

Well as Ryan said. He hooked me up with a pair of solarbats and they are amazing. I use to use the Rapala ones and they don’t come close to the solar bats

Good Eye protection is a must, my Dad had a torn cornia. Doc said it was because he spend his life outside and didnt wear eye protection. Almost lost sight in the eye and needed to go for about three surgerys. His eyes will only be back to normal after more than a year. Good Shades are a thousand bucks, going blind or major medical bills will set you back much more than that.

Speaking of expensive glases getting lost and damaged.

My dad had some very expensive glases , they were for flying [he is a pilot] so they were persciption and and ....made by siluhoute..anyways one day the old man and myself were out fishing on a small row boat in a dam in KZN....fishing was dead untill I got a hell of a take and struck...causing the whole boat to wobble and paps who was sitting on the edge went over board , when he came back up and got back onto the boat drenched , he realised his glases were gone....needless to say the fishing trip ended

That is one hell of a loss,the new frames that float are a good idea. But if your a pilot I guess that shouldn't be high on your prioraties. Exept if you regulary take your plane swimming:)
