I just returned from a maiden plugging / jigging trip to the Cosmoledo, Seychelles with Flycastaway, truly a professional outfit - WITHOUT DOUBT A TRIP OF A LIFETIME.
We landed many GTs in the 20 to 30kg class on plug and some nice fish in the 35 to 45kg range. After filling my boots with GTs on plug I concentrated on jigging, as I was really keen for a Doggie. Hooked a few Doggies but lost them with the hooks pulling. We landed many species on jig which proofed very effective with a fish on almost every drop. We landed Napoleon Wrasse, Saddle Back Grouper, Rosy Job Fish, Green Job Fish (landed two at one time on tandem assist hooks), Black Jack (Really happy with this catch), Marble Grouper, Honeycomb Rockcod etc.
Between the three in my party we landed between 200 to 250 fish.
Doggies totally destroy a jig biting out pieces of metal; we landed one small one of about 5kg.
The one fish I lost took the jig on the drop and when I clicked over the bail I was yanked into the side of the duck like a ton of bricks had fallen on me. The fish took off straight for the bottom with no chance of following it without a submarine. The hooks unfortunately pulled. The Stella Spool was hot to touch from the speed and power of the high drag and the strength of the fish.
I am completely hooked on jigging and after catching my fill of GTs on this trip (which I am sure will wear off) I am keen for Doggies, Yellowfin, Amberjack, Yellowtail.
Need to organize a trip to Latham / Mafia, which looks like Doggie Central.
A group of friends of mine have just left for a trip to the area. I will report back on there catches.
